Hi guys and gals,
I'm looking at having the party encounter a Kijimuna. which has "kidnapped" some kids(actually just convinced them to join a practical joke on their parents)
The party is trying to find the missing kids. I'm trying to leave hints that there's a Kijimuna around. Piles of fish scattered around etc.
If it used it's "Steal Fire" on a campfire or torch, would it be obvious that something unnatural happened to the campfire? I.e if the PCs were investigating some time later and come across the campfire, would it look obvious that it was tampered with? using some knowledge / perception/ survival rolls?
I can't really find much on "steal fire" aside from the description:
As a standard action, a kijimuna can call out to a non-magical fire within 30 feet equivalent in size to the flames of a burning torch. Doing so causes the flame to become a light similar to that created by a dancing lights spell, under the control of the kijimuna. An attended object can make a DC 13 Reflex saving throw to avoid this effect.
Unlike a dancing lights spell, a kijimuna’s steal fire ability can cause a stolen fire to strike a creature, either ringing the target in light as per the spell faerie fire for 5 minutes, or dealing 2d6 points of fire damage (DC 13 Reflex, half). Both save DCs are Charisma-based. A lantern, candle, torch, or similar item that has its flame stolen cannot be relit by any means for 24 hours.
obviously, if they try and light the fire, it wouldn't work, but I can't guarantee they'll try it :)

As a SU ability (Supernatural) it seems up to Gm interpretation if it can be detected with Detect Magic 3 round concentration and a Spellcraft check, followed by a KNOW Local for creatures with that ability or spell.
I say Yes. So that would be one way to know.
Otherwise, no it is simply snuffed out. Mundane survival could probably determine the fire was not "Doused" and if it is a dry day with little wind it could seem suspicious that good fuel would just cease burning suddenly, and with no residual heat or embers. Tracking can let you know approximately when a creature was present and the size and type category of creatures as well. So footprints nearby could tell them the fire SHOULD be warm, but is dead cold.
More clues could also help, stories of vanishing lights from locals. Tales of poor peasant farmers finding fish gifts on their doorsteps.
General Diplomacy checks or KNOW Local checks to gather information on the region.
I love Kijimuna, great little creatures =)

per raw yes as a supernatural ability there are magical emanations which basically means a rave is going off with lots of noise giant magic circles and lazer beams shooting off everywhere, but raw is super dumb in this aspect and if i were running it i would just have the fire go out instantly and with out warning which would probably leave the party thinking that something is amiss and reward them with info if they make a knowledge arcana check.
