I keep reading ‘Forced Amity’ and it says it ‘functions’ like Charm Person. As it is forced, does the humanoid get a saving throw?

Charm Person is also "forced", and yes if it functions like Charm Person, it does the same thing as Charm Person. There is a lot of straight-forward but not worded very well rules in SF I am finding.

I just can’t work out why the rules don’t say ‘same as Charm Person’ instead of ‘functions like Charm Person’. Sounds intentionally different to the obvious way of being crysal clear. Forced amity actually says, ‘forcing a humanoid creating to become friendly to you’ whereas Charm Person says, ‘makes a humanoid creature...’

I am confused by this.
If Forced Amity was to allow a save, then what's the difference between using the ability and just casting the spell? Does that mean that the only thing the Forced Amity ability does is let me spend an RP to cast Charm Person, which I can do anyway? This feels quite underpowered.
Admittedly, allowing a charm person without a save would be quite a bit overpowered, so I'm not saying that should be the ruling either. But I do want to know what benefits there are for using the ability compared to just casting the spell.

The main benefit is that charm person is not on your connection spells, it saves you a spell known if you want to use charm person.

As charm person is a very situational spell anyway, this is an okay way to have it if you need it, but not waste a huge resource (spell known), or rely on gear (spell gems).

The minor benefit is that it gives you charm person/monster without having to invest a spell known, and using resolve instead of spell slots to cast.

The major benefit is that the DC scales with your class level rather than being fixed to the spell level. At high levels that’s a significant DC boosts, especially if you don’t invest in the Spell Focus feat.
