Is Necromantic Affinity self-defeating?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

The Necromantic Affinity feat, among other things, gives you a bonus to saves against negative energy and similar bad things. However, it also makes you get healed by said negative energy. So if it makes that type of energy helpful to you, then what’s the point of being better at resisting it?

It does not make you healed by negative energy in general, only inflict spells. A cleric channeling negative energy will still hurt you, but you'll get a bonus to save against it.

Which makes absolutely no sense.

It should heal you from a negative channel but as written it doesn't. It's worth an FAQ for that.
The save bonus is for negative energy effects that do bad things to you such as a shadow's strength damage so the save is useful.

PS:I know the shadow doesn't allow a save. I was just using am example of a harmful negative energy effect.

Edit: I do believe the current ruling is only for the spells, and Paizo made a bad feat.

It's not a bad choice for a cleric with the Death domain. With Death's Embrace you're healed by negative channeling. So the two together provide fairly comprehensive coverage. (The Harm spell would still hurt you though, but then it's powerful magic.)
