So the sharpshooter soldier fighting style has an ability called focus fire.
When you make a full attack with a ranged weapon, you can make both attacks with a –3 penalty instead of a –4 penalty as long as they both target the same creature. If your first attack kills or knocks out the target, you can instead make the second attack against a different creature at a –4 penalty. Once you have the soldier’s onslaught class feature (see page 112), you can use this ability with it, making three attacks against the same creature at a –5 penalty; if your first or second attack kills or knocks out your target, you can make your remaining attacks against a different creature at a –6 penalty.
So my question is this, can you use multiple ranges weapons so long as all the weapons used are ranged for the full attack, or are you allowed to use only a specific single weapon? This is important to charters who may want to use Starknives for other thrown weapons in particular though is could apply to any character who can wield more than 1 ranged weapon at the same time.

Starknives are not ranged weapons. They are melee weapons with the thrown property.
Take a look at the Thrown description on page 182 of the core rulebook. Also look at page 245, and compared Ranged Attacks to Ranged Attacks with a thrown weapon. So they couldn't work with Focus Fire in any case.
Generally, I would read focus fire as refering to a single ranged weapon, and wouldn't let you use two small arms, for example.
