Maximum racial qualities / ability score modifiers when creating a race?

Rules Questions

So i made a new race by approval of DM, after a bit back and forth with one of the other players there has been a question about ability score modifier. I've been looking through it, but i can't see it specifically mentioned that you can ONLY pick 1 ability modifier.

The only relevant text i find is this:

Quote:
"You must select an option from each of the following quality categories."

However it doesn't state any limit itself, just that you need at least one.

Would it be ok to for example have Paragon and Greater Weakness?

I see that you're using the race builder rules from the Advanced Race Guide.
Quick tip: Don't use those rules. Because they really are terrible. They are not balanced and will in no way guarantee an appropriate race. It's a better approach to just use your own common sense and compare your idea to existing races.

If your DM has approved your custom races, that's all the approval you need.

Thanks for the tip, but regardless though for the sake of clarification it would be nice to know if there is a limit or not.

"An option" is itself singular, so I believe the intention is for you to only pick one from each quality category. So you would have to choose between Paragon and Greater Weakness.

You could further modify your ability scores using the racial traits options... but those are reserved for "advanced" or "monstrous" races. But if that's what your GM approves, then go for it.

For your question, it can only have one stat modifier quality. So Paragon or Greater Weakness but not both.

ARG race generating rules are a ok start, but make sure you and your GM are not just making a min-max race for your class. It's a common mistake many make with those rules.
