Just a quick check: Animal Companions and Armor

Rules Questions

I do have to have my animal companion use three feats (armor prof) before he can wear heavy armor without bringing out Armor Check penalties to attack, right?

Yes, or get mithral kikko (or some other armour with zero ACP).

Note that if your GM follows the recent FAQ mithral armour is ridiculously expensive for large creatures so you may want to make tiny armour fitting

Ah, that sucks. I'd want the armor to be fullplate, so I can eventually get it to be Advancing and Dreadwing.

But good catch on the fitting, either way.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm not entirely sure that would work. The armor resizes, sure, but does it reshape to fit, e.g., a pig/bird/lizard?

Edit: Ugh, ignore me. I'm just a pig.

Kikko armour also has the aesthetic benefit of fitting between layers of heavy cloth so it can look like whatever you want it to! Get your horse an armoured tuxedo! A Tarrasque costume for your boar! A ghillie suit for your gryphon!

Before you go the tiny armor fitting route, check with your GM. It’s very like lifting will get errata, campaign clarified, or banned as a result of the loophole it allows due to the FAQ. Not just me thinking, there have been staff comments.

My vote goes to Answer D: All of the above.

But as to what happens first, I'll predict a banning, then an errata, and then campaign clarification.
