Firing into melee?

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

I know in Pathfinder, you take a -4 to hit when firing into melee (unless you have the Precise Shot feat), and a -4 for firing through soft cover...I found the same soft cover rule in the Starfinder core book, but I do not see anything about firing into melee...

Do you still take a -4 for firing into melee, or was that removed?

The Exchange

It was removed. It was always really just a feat tax and I think that since everyone will be taking ranged shots at some point they just felt like it was unnecessary.

Grand Lodge

I'll have to inform one of our local GMs, he was still imposing the -4 for melee.

Glad it's gone, since Sci-Fi is so gun oriented.

However - isn't there that penalty for soft cover if someone is between you and your target? That is, +4 to the target's AC?

Grand Lodge

Soft cover for firing through an occupied square is definitely still in there, saw it in the book when I was looking for info about firing into melee.
