Hello everyone, I haven't found anything in the book that says that wireless hacking is an option for any class except the mechanic. I hope that either I am wrong (if so please enlighten me) or that this is not a necessary feature for a party to have. I am planning on being my parties pseudo mechanic (solder with skill focus in computers and engineering with high intelligence).
Can anyone tell me WITHOUT SPOILERS (my GM is particular) if this is going to handicap my party playing the Dead Suns AP? My party seemed kinda nervous about not having a full mechanic, but I'd really rather not play one.

Hi I'm wondering is there any way to hack wirelessly aside from being a mechanic?
Sort of. It requires a non-wireless hack first, though.
1) Purchase a computer with a Control Module (rated for the computer to use as a staging point or higher) and the Range I, II, or III upgrade.
2) Successfully hack the staging point computer and place it under control of the Control Module.
3) Use the Control Module to remotely control the staging point computer at any point within the distance of the Range upgrade to launch hacks against any connected systems.

The only benefits to wireless hacking are to stay out of range of physical countermeasures or active defenses watching the physical access point. Other than shock grids, you'd have to have weird topography or dumb/limited defenses for this to matter much. Like you're in cover while hacking a door to escape. It's nice, I guess, but you could just kill the guys shooting you or pop some smoke or something as an alternative.
The Technomancer can't remotely hack, but he can cast Handy Junkbit to make a short lived R2 unit who can hack or disable device for you. That way your hacker is at least disposable. It's pretty fragile and not as good as a dedicated character (3+caster level skills, no attribute or insight bonuses), but it's safer and can at least be a distraction while hacking/disabling easy systems under heavy fire.

I just wanted to add an update. I found this gem at the end of the user interface section. It opens up a lot more possibilities for those that aren't mechanics
"You can use a hacking kit to access a computer without using a user interface, but this requires you to have physical contact with the computer or to make contact through an infosphere or similar network that is linked to the computers."
So apparently if you have a connection to the infoshpere you are vulnerable which makes sense since that's how it is in real life. What I want to know now is, does the DC go up if the infosphere is your only access point to a computer...
