It would be nice to know if the Judges rejected your Wondrous Item or not. I don't think there is anything currently in place, but the underlying technology should be able to email you if/when your submission gets put in the reject pile. I am sure they are already going through submissions to try to lessen the impact of all the last minute submissions.

I can't see ever doing that because every now and then a rejected item is raised from the dead for various reasons. One time I rejected something but I made a mistake in what I did. So that item got yanked from the reject pile back into play. Now, had we done what you propose then that author would have gotten a rejection.
No decision on rejecting ever really is final until the top 32 are figured out and alternates selected. And that doesn't happen until the very end. So there is no way and no reason to notify of rejection prior to that.

Ah. That makes sense. I was under the impression that the "reject pile" was a no return zone. I sometimes forget that the judges are only human and can make mistakes or change their minds :)

It would also suck to -not- get a rejection letter until the last minute (either because you were overlooked- hundreds of submissions here- or because you were one of the last choices) and thus assume you were in the top 32, then be proven wrong.
I'll bet it can be a nail-biting affair, especially if you submitted early, but I'm not sure I'd want this even if it were feasible.

It is a real challenge no doubt about it!
Speaking from my experiences in the first round.. you don't want to become too attached to the idea of getting in the first round. That is not to say to become negative about it, or not to do your absolute best.. But remember you're still awesome person even if you're not in the 32. Go play a game for a while.. don't dwell on it on the contest so much that everything falls apart.
At the same time, you got to be ready for the next round, and keep your energy up. Keep your game face on.
EDIT: And don't let other people drag you down. And I'm not referring to anyone specifically.. But some people boast. Some people fret. Some people got nothing positive to say. Believe in yourself. It's like a high school dance in a way... if you don't think you're good enough to dance with, why should some lad or lass think any different?
