The Combat Drone's Initial Mods include weapon mount or melee weapon arm (up to 2 in any combination), but it looks like it only gets one weapon proficiency.
If you wanted to mount a small arm and a basic melee weapon, would you have to use your one mod for the other weapon proficiency?
It looks that way to me, but thought I would get other opinions.
Note that weapon proficiency is not an allowed feat for drones. It looks like you have to buy it as a modification -- which makes sense since you need it built into the drone.

Thanks!
That means I can use the default proficiency for one type and the initial mods for another.
That gives the initial combat drone several possible configurations that I can see:
That is a lot better!

basic melee and small arms, has one of each type of weapon
basic melee and advanced melee, use a two handed weapon
small arms and longarms, use a longarm
basic melee and special weapon
small arms and special weapon That is a lot better!
The drone can also get heavy weapon, as you can use your first weapon proficiency for longarms (since you get small arms for free) and then use your first mod slot to get heavy weapon.

Sadly, that is not a Drone feat (like Animal Companions in Pathfinder, they limited in feat choices), read page 76.

It isn't a drone feat, but it is a drone basic mod: Weapon Proficiency. That allows them to get proficiency with a new type of weapon.
They would need a mount of the appropriate type and the proficiency from the mod.
Note that because of the requirement for Strength 13 on Heavy Weapon proficiency, only the Combat Drone can qualify for it.

Yep, and only the combat drone would qualify for it at first level even without the strength requirement since the other two models don't get weapon proficiency as a bonus mod so they'd have to take their 1st level mod to get longarm, which is a prereq for heavy weapon.

Could you give the context of it? I'm not seeing the exact phrase "special weapon specialization" anywhere in the CRB, so it should just mean Weapon Specialization with the weapon category Special Weapons, the same as it would for any character.
