Opinions on a bad idea

Working on a construct building wizard archetype that a player isnpushing for, and am curious as to folks opinions on power balance for it.

The short working version is drop arcane school and bond, and reduce sp3lls per day by one at each level. In exchange get a pet modeled after the construct rider alchemist.

Scribe scroll.and the 5th level bonus feat are dropped, and craft construct added at 5th level.

Thoughts?

why not summoner but with construct edolon instead of outsider?

Player is obsessed with prepared casters, and the rest of the concept needs to be a 9 level caster.

But the summoner chassis or any of three alchemist archetypes would be easier. It will still be a bit before the campaign can get going, so I have agreed to look at brewing up something in the meantime.

still recommend using the summoner as a casis maybe turn it into an wisdom or int based 9th level caster reduce the hit die and bab

At that point it's really using the eidolon chassis on a wizard, which isn't a bad idea to allow the customizing of the construct.

There is an alchemist archetype that gets a homunculus (construct) companion. Alchemists function much like prepared casters.

No, will have to look into it.

I think the reduced spellcasting is unnecessary. Losing arcane school and bond is a pretty steep tradeoff and is more than sufficient for the benefits here. Also, just a heads up that the Construct Rider archetype is missing rules on how to repair or replace a damaged or destroyed construct. Not as problematic for the Wizard as it is for the Alchemist since they get spells that can repair constructs, but still something you should address. Otherwise this it looks like a fine archetype.
