Skill points

Advice

Ok, so I'm making a new character who's a Human Fighter with the Swordsmith archetype. The Fighter page on d20pfsrd.com says I get 2 points plus my Int modifier at each level. The Swordsmith page says I get 4 points instead plus one that must be used for the Craft Weapons skill, and the Human page says I get one additional skill rank per level. With an Int modifier of +3, that means I can pick 8 skills, right? And would that include Craft Weapons or not? I'm new to the game so I'm having trouble.

You got it right.
And you can spend your skill points in craft skills too, of course.
You cannot use your skill to craft magic armor pieces, though, if you don't take a feat that allows you to do it.

Just as Kileanna states, you can put some of you skill points into your skills however you like. This means you can take Craft weapons, craft armor, craft etc... It just looks like the only requirement you have is that at least 1 point has to be used in Craft Weapons Skill each time you level up.

I do recommend that if you want to put points in crafts other than weapon crafting that you consider your characters biography. Would his past allow him to have crafting armor skill or any other type of crafts?

Also, some crafting times can be prohibitive, so ask your GM if you are going to have enough downtime so crafting can be useful. Depending on the campaign it can be powerful or useless.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ok, thanks. :) I'll take a good look at the feats and traits.
