Pathfinder: Kingmaker as a video game?!!

OK, I can't say much right now (at work) but there is a Kickstarter going on right now that anyone who is a fan of the Kingmaker AP should check out: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/owlcatgames/pathfinder-kingmaker

Ahh. It would have worked brilliantly as a NWN persistent world. :)

I never played NWW, even though I used to be a big computer gamer (pretty much stopped playing video games on PC because I got tired of having to upgrade my computer or buy a new one entirely; after that, I switched to buying laptops only for school and work while I stuck with Playstation as my console of choice).

That being said, since the Kingmaker game is scheduled to release late summer next year, I think I can afford to get a new desktop by then that should satisfy the requirements.

One thing I hope they will enable for the video game version is the use of mods - that should increase the replay value of the game significantly. I have always wished that I could be a player in the Kingmaker AP instead of running it (as I am currently doing), heh. ;)

Hm. Maybe they could code in Hargulka's Monster Kingdom.

Yep, I noticed it there afterwards, Rysky. Thank you for the link.

I figured I mention it too for 2 reasons: for those who normally don't read the forums outside of the APs, and also as a place for DM to talk about it on how it may influence the Kingmaker AP for them now if they are currently running a Kingmaker AP or preparing to run one in the near future.

Good idea :3

Turns out that most of my players for the Kingmaker AP has joined in the Kickstarter. Now I have to decide between trying to finish the campaign before the release of the video game next year or come up with a different ending at an earlier chapter of the campaign.

Alternatively, I can keep running the campaign after the release of the video game as my campaign is already fairly different enough from the original AP.

Thoughts?

If you're already in and differing from the printed AP, I reckon keep going with it and don't rush the finish. (Assuming your players want to do that too, of course.)

I'd recommend continuing your campaign. A cooperative campaign with full pathfinder rules is a very different experience from a single player CRPG with a smaller amount of options.

That is a valid point. The focus of the narrative in the video game is through the lens of a singular player, whereas the actual campaign is a shared narrative (for the most part).

I find it ironic that I have been running my campaign since the beginning (2+ years ago) in a manner to present the story and the gameplay as similar to older rpg video games (like Final Fantasy and Ogre Battle). Basically, it's lower magic for the pcs (no spells above 6th, no raise dead or similar resurrection spells but it can be duplicated via rare highly magical items or rituals), and using the Tome of Battle's martial manouevres that can be brought as rewards with Prestige Points through the local Adventurers' Guild, along with mythic rules (with the adjustments made by Legendary Games). Plus, they get to play as other characters through their cohorts.

I suppose that my biggest concern was that the video game would partially spoil the surprise of some of the major plot points in the latter half of the AP since we are gaming at a slow, relaxed pace. I know I don't have to worry about my players ever seeing the Courts of the Shadow Fey in the video game version but the story involving the king of Pitax or the revelation of the final opponent are most likely to be in the actual video game.

Still, I think continuing the campaign as it currently stands is the most rewarding option for all involved in the long run.
