Age of Worms Adventure Path

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I want to add my self to thanks all the people who contributed in this topics.
I've been able to find all the dungeon magazines issues of this campaign on ebay and now I am translating (writing to you guys from Italy) and playing this great adventure with my group. It's been near one year now (started in the beginning of August 2016) and my group has just defeated Pitch Blade in the Arena, they haven't solves the ulgurgasta problem yet so chance are that there will be a great mayem in 2 days! All the topic with other master questions and way to handle pc choices and such are helping me really a lot. So thanks to all who partecipated nearly 12 years ago now, and thanks to paizo for keeping this forum alive so we can still check back!

I'm still running this adventure path too. We started about 2.5 years ago, and I will be starting Spire of Long Shadows soon. Our group only plays every 2-3 weeks, and we take breaks from high level play to play other games, so its been slow going, but I've really enjoyed running AoW so far.

I'm also still running the Age of Worms in 3.5E! My group is near the end of The Wormcrawl Fissure, and looking forward to their showdown with Dragotha.

I'm with you guys. I've been running a PbP for 3 years now for this and we are now in the Gathering Winds and going strong. I only wish there was a book for it.

I am actually getting ready to run this after years. I am going to be doing it in Pathfinder and for an AP Podcast so this will be fun I figure 12 years is long enough for spoilers on it :)

I am still trudging along at a snail's pace using 3.5 with the Prince of Redhand. I see some burnout in the group and some are getting uncomfortable with high level play, but I'm hoping the RP heavy PoR will rejuvenate the group.

Woah, someone else is playing Age of Worms using 3.5? My party is almost done with the Spire of Long Shadows. Last night they slew the overworm (the party druid decided to go toe-to-toe with it using aspect of the earth hunter); all that's left is Mak'ar and the three Knights. I know I want to give Mak'ar a friend, but I haven't decided whether to pair him with a Knight or give him some more numerous mooks. How did your "final battle" in the Spire go?

I'm now gearing up for Prince of Redhand. The guest list needs a lot of work - the callbacks to Diamond Lake will be lost in my group, which spent most of its time trying to get out of that dingy little mining town. Loris Raknian escaped during the Champion's Belt, to the players' chagrin, and I think this will be a good place for him to resurface. How far along is your party?

Per a suggestion in these forums, I had Mak'ar use a Limited Wish to bring the corrupted Eladrin Kelvos back to life. This allowed Mak'ar to learn all about the party that has been invading the Obsidian Ring and their tactics. My group had a hard time with the spellcasting of an improved invisibility Kelvos last time up on the surface, but Kelvos rolled a "1" against a save vs Destruction this time around from a cleric that defeated his invisibility, and thus only had a chance to cast one spell.

Well, the party finished off the Spire of Long Shadows last night. I wound up pseudo-pairing all three Knights with Mak'ar. The lich telepathically instructed the Knights to inquire about the progress of the Age of Worms, but the PCs got antsy during the conversation and attacked.

Mak'ar spent the first few rounds of combat buffing up back in his chambers, then used greater dimension door to join the battle and open up with maze and quickened enervate. (I reworked Mak'ar to just be human; the influence of spellweavers on the Age of Worms feels more like an excuse to use spellweavers than a plot thread.) Tragically, that's the sum of what he managed - repulsion doesn't protect against enemies that just teleport RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU. The rest is grapple checks and history.

Once Mak'ar was down, the Knights were an easy cleanup. I think my big mistake was staging the fight on the Sea of Worms; the Knights have terrible maneuverability, and couldn't bring their full attacks to bear against a party that could easily fly/teleport/jump from one place to another.

After the party restocks at Magepoint, it'll be off to Alhaster next session. You mentioned that your party is burning out a bit on high-level play, but hopefully that will be mitigated by the transition from the fight-for-your-lives Spire to the more investigative urban adventure. Are the players excited for the feast? I'm hoping mine will agree to help assemble a real-life version of the dinner.

Glad to see AoW is still getting some play time. I to am currently running an AoW campaign, with 7 players. We only manage an average of 2 sessions a month. Slow going in an adventure path... Probably will be playing for 2 more years as the playerss/characters just finished lifting the siege of Blackwall Keep. The various forums on Paizo have really helped me avoid some pitfalls while running the campaign thus far, especially 3FoE which is quite a needle to thread both in patching holes in plot lines and keeping the deadliness dialed back.. Thanks to all who have put forth creativity in the many threads about the campaign. Long live The Age of Worms!!!

I'm running AoW in Eberron, using Pathfinder rules. The conversions can be a pain in the ass, but this forum has helped me out a ton. Glad to see more people are finding this adventure path!

A few years ago I had every article and adventure for this AP bound in a nice hardcover. Like an idiot, I sold it and am just now going back to collect the mags and articles to put it together again. I really want to run this adventure! Just need to get my $#!+ together and do it! Many thanks to Paizo and all you players and DM's for keeping these threads alive and well. Long live the Age of Worms!!

I've been running an expanded AoW campaign based in Eberron since...well, let me put it this way. I didn't know my wife when I started playing it, and now I have three kids. :D

I've mixed and matched everything. When the warmage was plane shifted by the beholder in Spire of Long Shadows, she ran a solo game for a bit using The Impossible Eye as a base. That tied in nicely to fighting the ifrit in The Library of Last Resort, whom I reskinned into the exiled noble from the City of Brass.

I added in a lot of Council of Thieves into Redhand, and Zeech's party was for the survivors of The Sixfold Trial. Now one of the party is the Prince of Redhand and slowly being corrupted by Lashonna while the rest of the party is trying to put together the Rod of Law to prevent their new little princedom from being destroyed by green worms.

It is crazy to think of how much I have mined from Paizo's adventures over the last decade. Thanks, guys!
