Question about the Troop template?

So I'm not 100% sure on how the troop template works. Do they fill a large token size? Do they disperse among a bunch of single medium sized creatures that share a hp pool?

It's basically a swarm, but made up of Small or larger creatures working together as a unit. So like a swarm, they move and are generally abstracted as if one Large (or sometimes larger) creature.

So they just fill a 2x2 token? That seems incredibly small for something described as a troop.

Ah, slight error on my part--a given troop occupies a 20x20 foot square--and not even necessarily a square, their space is noted to be 'completely shapeable' so long as they occupy contiguous squares.

Put another way, a Troop occupies 16 contiguous 5'x5' squares.

Do diagonal connections count in this case?

Don't think so. So the troop needs to make an L shape over three squares to cover two diagonal squares.
