My group is about to encounter the one in book 2. I am concerned this may go real bad. Did others change this encounter? Did it go bad for alot of games?

Its a pretty challenging critter. There are a few tips scattered through the Book 2 thread and the What did you change thread.

My group had no issues with it.

Did they all save though. That is my concern, that a failed save could be a death sentence.

Sorry for not explaining more, at work. If they fail the save they can wind up in a room with a critter that will kill them.

Only one of my players got teleported (IIRC, this was in winter 2014), and they ended up in a benign location. The others that failed were either a fizzle for invalid location or made the saves.


This encounter was nearly a TPK for us. We took out the crypt thing fairly easily, but the other thing in the nearby room took 4 characters out before the others ran.

I had a fairly high power party. 3 (out of 6) failed their saves. 2 of them would have teleported straight to the end boss (and been Mummy food)

However, I noticed in the Crypt thing description that sometimes a crypt thing paralizes and turns invisible it's victims, instead of teleporting them. I had already previously decided that anybody who *would* have been teleported to the boss was instead invisible and paralyzed.
