Help me finish and balance my War Fan. (Weapon).

Homebrew and House Rules

I want a better fighting fan for a future monk to use. I remember that there are more combat oriented fighting fans made out of sharp metal plates that can be used as a shield. Than the one in pathfinder.

War Fan: Damage 1d6, Critical 18-20x2, Type S/B, Distracting, Monk, AC +1.

Magic enchanting costs is the same as armor or weapon, whichever is higher. Bunt damage is for closing the fan and disciplining people.

What do I need to change or add?

Forgive me but to me this looks strictly superior to the Scimitar and the Rapier, I'd suggest making it 1D4 or 19-20x2 because at the moment it reads like 'I made a custom weapon thats strictly better than all the other one handed 18-20x2 weapon Martial weapons', which is already an extremely strong category. Also do you intend it to be finessable?

I've made a War Fan user for what its worth Snakebite Brawler 10/Inspired Muse 10

War Fan: Damage 1d4, Critical 18-20x2, Type S/B, Distracting, Monk, AC +1. And is considered a light weapon.

Should the damage type be slashing and piercing just like the normal fan? Or should I add or switch out piercing for bludgeoning damage? Should the bludgeoning damage be non-lethal?

Yeah, that's too overpowered. Also, there are rules for magic enhancements on items that function as both armor and weapons, in that the costs are cumulative, and the enhancement bonuses are separate in terms of additions and limitations.

Things to change:

-19-20/X2 multiplier or proficiency. It's too overpowering for a fan to have 18-20/X2 and be a Martial weapon, even if it's just a D4. Either reduce the multiplier, or make it Exotic.

-Instead of a +1 AC, give it the Blocking property described in Ultimate Equipment, since I don't see a fan (even with metal plates) functioning as a proper shield.

-Maybe add a mechanic where the character must switch between Slashing and Bludgeoning damage as a Move Action (or Free Action if they have the Quick Draw feat).

War Fan:Exotic Weapon. Damage 1d4, Critical 18-20x2, Type S/B, Distracting, Monk, Blocking. And is considered a light weapon. Your character must switch between Slashing and Bludgeoning damage as a move action, or as a free action if they have the quickdraw feat. The War Fan is also a ninja weapon and is considered on the ninja weapon list with your GM's permission.

War Fan add on Kit: Spring loaded dart; This is an attachment for assassin's and a separate weapon for the Fighting Fans and War Fans. This weapon is concealed on a Fan weapon and can be triggered on command to launch a single spring loaded poisoned needle.

Dart Stats: 1d2 damage, x2 crit, ranged 20 feet, Piercing Damage, Eastern Martial Weapon. The needles com in a small box of 10.

How Much should each of these weapons cost both normal damage and masterwork?

I'd still make it an exotic weapon, or have it be a 19-20/X2 weapon, especially since this counts across two types of damage (and there is no such thing as an 18-20/X2 Bludgeoning weapon).

It's very difficult for people to turn something as simple as a Fan into a deadly weapon (no, I don't mean that it should be non-lethal damage), so it'd require some very special training to work with it.

The Ninja proficiency is a good idea, though.

A lot of dart-based weapons are Exotic. Since you have a War Fan with a Spring Dart attachment, that'd likewise be Exotic too, in the same vein that a Shield turned into a Throwing Shield would be an Exotic Weapon.

War Fan:Exotic Eastern Weapon; Damage 1d4, Critical 19-20x2, Type S/B, Distracting, Monk, Blocking. And is considered a light weapon. Your character must switch between Slashing and Bludgeoning damage as a move action, or as a free action if they have the quickdraw feat. Is this better?

Much better.

Should the Spring loaded Dart get a concealment bonus when attached for searching for it? And should the dart accidently be set off on a dice roll of 1 when attacking and searching the weapon? To offset the cost of the concealment bonus?

It still seems overpowered. It's strictly better than the bich'hwa, the dan bong, the emei piercer, the (standard) fighing fan, the madu, and the sai.

If you want to make custom weapons, using a system might help.

Heroes of the Jade Oath also published some eastern-style weapons, including a war fan, and is probably worth taking a look at (for comparison if nothing else).
