Wound Thresholds and Extracts

Rules Questions

I have a quick search for this but can't find an answer, if anyone can link me to a thread then please do so.

My question is about how Unchained's Wound Threshold rules interact with an Alchemist's extracts?

The Alchemist's level is treated as their caster level for the purpose of preparing extracts which are described like spells in potion form.

When that alchemist is wounded or critical and his caster level drops, does this affect the extracts he already has prepared given that they were brewed when he was not injured? Would those extracts suffer a lower duration or potency because of the drop in caster level?

I would assume that when critical he could not prepare any new extracts of his highest level Formulae (if he had left slots open for example).

It's an interesting question.

"When an alchemist mixes an extract, he infuses the chemicals and reagents in the extract with magic siphoned from his own magical aura. An extract immediately becomes inert if it leaves the alchemist’s possession, reactivating as soon as it returns to his keeping"

Since an extracts power is tied to an alchemist's aura I would rule that if their caster level and thus their aura were reduced, this would affect the caster level of extracts as well.

Infusions are a bit trickier, it depends on how you see the effect of the extra magical power used. I see it as the infusion can now draw power from the alchemist's aura at any distance and would thus be reduced. Other's may see it as giving the extract the ability to be independent of that aura and thus wouldn't be affected by the alchemist's caster level reduction.

Thanks Gallant.

It makes sense that alchemists shouldn't be able to just bypass this. Does anyone else have an opinion or experience in practice?
