I happened to be looking through my subscriptions and noted a large increase in the price charged for shipping July's Player Companion. Over $1.50 jump. When the cost of shipping equals more than 1/3 of the price of the item shipped, I cannot help but be concerned. Why is it costing so much to ship a book not even half a pound?
In May I am getting both the Player Companion and the Adventurer's Guide and yet the cost of shipping is only $9.07 IIRC.
So over $6 for one tiny little Player Companion in July, but I get a large hardcover and Player Companion in May for just $3 more?! I don't get it.

Because the book doesn't come out for some time yet its final form factors have not been entered. The numbers you are seeing are based on the placeholder information, which are usually greater than what the final dimensions will be. When we get closer to its release and have the final dimensions and weight those form factors will be updated.

But how do the dimensions and weight of a 32 page book change from month to month? It doesn't. So I really do not understand the explanation...

Each product we put on the website needs to have form factors. We don't enter those until we have a copy of the item in the warehouse though. So most items that are not yet available have placeholder information. The placeholder information is usually bigger than the product will be, for instance the Companion you are looking at has placeholder information that shows a weight that is more than double the weight of the Companion that came out this month. When we have the book in house and input the final form factor information you will see a more accurate shipping estimate.

I just spoke to the webstore team and they let me know that they have gone ahead and adjusted the form factors to match the ones that have already been released. So you should see a more accurate estimate now.
