I'm looking at the monstrous lycanthrope template from Green Ronin Publishing and thought of a question.
Do a monstrous lycanthrope gain any defensive abilities from its base monster? Damage reduction, immunity to mind effects, energy resistances etc.
The defensive abilities section only grants DR /silver and makes no mention of existing abilities. It seems weird that a were-red dragon would be susceptible to sleep and fire damage or a were-treant is as easy to manipulate with mind magic as any human.
It is made stranger by the fact that the lycanthrope gains subtypes from the base monster (in all forms nonetheless), so a were-elemental is immune to crits and sneak attacks.

I could have sworn dragons were immune to becoming lycanthropes. but I could not find any data in my Draconomicon to back up my info.
Well, the normal lycanthrope template from Paizo can only be applied to humanoids, so dragons (along with everything else that's not a humanoid) are immune. But the monstrous lycanthrope template I'm asking about is intended to give GMs a method of making lycanthropes to something entirely different in their gameworld =)

is a template that can be added to any living creature with a generally humanoid form—namely, two arms, two legs, and a head (referred to hereafter as the base creature).
Yes, you are correct, Dragons are immune to becoming a Monstrous Lycanthrope.
But a Humanoid can become a Monstrous Lycanthrope that turns into a Dragon.Do a monstrous lycanthrope gain any defensive abilities from its base monster? Damage reduction, immunity to mind effects, energy resistances etc.

Even wereconstructs and wereundead are possible, though they lack the features of the construct or undead type in monster form since they do not gain the type abilities of the base monster.
So a Red Weredragon dose not gain immunity to Sleep or Fire as they are Type/Subtype Abilities.

The Defensive Abilities entry only adds DR/silver, but note that a monstrous lycanthrope gains the subtypes of the base monster. So a were-red dragon would gain fire immunity (and cold vulnerability) in all forms, because that is part of the base monster's fire subtype, but it would not gain the dragon creature type's immunity to sleep.

Type: The base creature’s type does not change, but does gain the shapechanger subtype and the subtypes of the base monster even if they conflict with the base creature.
So a Red Weredragon dose not gain immunity to Sleep or Fire as they are Type/Subtype Abilities.
Yep I was incorrect about Subtype Abilities, you do gain Fire Immunity.
Thank you Tim Emrick.
