Spelleater Bloodrager & DR

Rules Questions

"If the spelleater gains an increase to damage reduction from a bloodline, feat, or other ability, he is considered to have an effective damage reduction of 0, and the increase is added to this effective damage reduction."

If you pick the Undead bloodline, at 8th level death's gift gives DR 10 against nonlethal.

Someone at my table was convinced this would instead give the character DR 10/- (against all damage) thanks to the spelleater archetype adding it to its existing 0 DR. Is this the case?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm pretty sure that clause is only there because the Spelleater loses their normal bloodrager damage reduction, and that allows them to still benefit from things which would affect that damage reduction. Different kinds of DR from bloodlines are not the same as increases to your bloodrager DR/- that a bloodline or feat might give you.

Further, gaining DR 10 against nonlethal isn't strictly an increase in damage reduction. It's gaining a specific type of damage reduction.
