A couple of questions about Cohorts

Advice

So, I'v been thinking a bit and the idea of having a Cohort seems like fun. So I have a few questions about them and would apreciate it if anyone wanted to take some time and give me the info I want? ^_^

First Question: What ways are there to get a Cohort? I know of the LEadership and Vile Leadership feats, And I know of the Esquire Cavalier, The Daring General Cavalier and the Instructor Wizard. Are there any other ways?

Second Question: Are Cohorts more disruptive then say a Druids or Rangers animal companions?

Third Question: Are Cohorts realy over powerd? (I hope not..)

Fourth Question: Regarding Cohort experience gain the Leadership Feat says "divide the cohort’s level by your level. Multiply this result by the total XP awarded to you, then add that number of experience points to the cohort’s total." So.. If I am level 7 and my Cohort is level 3, And I gain 1200 XP, Does that mean my Cohort gains 514 XP?

Thanks in advance!

1) You can get a limited cohort from the Recruits or Squire feats and upgrade them to Leadership. Taldan Knight also grants a cohort with specific features and an extra benefit. The Cult Leader and Warlord archetypes grant Leadership for free.

2) They can be. Animal companions are fairly limited in the number of things then can do. Melee damage, flanking, maybe a combat maneuver or two, maybe some kind of scouting, fetching, or message-carrying. Cohorts can do almost as much as a PC can. A well-built support cohort like a bard can be a real force multiplier, and if your GM lets cohorts craft items for the PCs it can get a little crazy. It can also sometimes be challenging to manage roleplaying a cohort in addition to a PC, which is disruptive in a different way.

3) Given the above... yes. They provide much more benefit than you should expect from a feat unless you intentionally severely limit them. However, being overpowered doesn't necessarily make them disruptive. For example, for a party may obtain a cohort healer instead of having a party member take on that role. While this is a very powerful benefit it also helps all party members, not just the person with the cohort, and can make it easier to run a game. The Esquire Cavalier and the Instructor Wizard also look more balanced than the Leadership feat because of the restrictions placed on the cohort and because you give up a mount or familiar, which is a bigger cost than a feat.

4) Looks right to me.

Thanks for the reply ^_^ Good to know I understood the XP gain correctly. And I wouldent give a cohort a item creation feat, But I think they could be useful. Like the last two sessions we where in a Drow Fort and since our Rogue dident like or trust drow, She refused to leave her cart for the two sessions because she dident trust the drow not to steal it. If we would have had a Cohort, He/She could have guarded the cart! And could also help a bit in fights, And I like having minions.. I mean companions.. xD
