I realize many people will roll their eyes and groan at the question, and that is fine, but I'm always interested in new rulesets for playing games in a galaxy far, far away. I usually use the D6 system, and WotC's attempts did not thrill me, so I am interested in looking at Starfinder, since it is so familiar (and beloved) to myself and nearly every player I know.
Are any of you considering the same thing? I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas on making this work (but please, kindly refrain from explanations on why this is a bad idea; I'd prefer to discover that on my own.)

Mostly it's class/item/enemy restrictions. If you don't use Jedi/Sith at all, then you can just drop in Mechanic, Soldier, Operative, and Envoy. As mentioned, Solarion is close enough to Jedi/Sith that you won't have much trouble fixing that up. Chuck in a bunch of droids, limit AI stuff, and remove all references to paper, and you're good to go.

Or if you're willing to wait for Dreamscarred Press to convert psionics you'd be set. If you'd rather not wait, just convert the kineticist.

Seems to me the default could probably give a pretty good Star Wars feel, though the actual powers wouldn't be right. Setting changes to put the various caster classes into "Jedi" and "Sith" (or other Force using group) roles and you could probably run a "Star Wars with the serial numbers filed off" game.
I'd suspect a "no-Jedi" game, if you make that no-magic, would work only a little better than a no magic game of Pathfinder. Magic looks like it's pretty tightly built into the mechanical expectations.
An actual Star Wars game would require converting the various caster classes to Force equivalents. And probably reworking a lot of the magic item stuff. There's not a lot of magitech or common Force items in SW. And the game is likely to rely heavily on those.

It would be interesting to set up a Star Wars like setting but with standard magic spell casting substituting for the force. In this setting magic would be rare and almost unheard of except in legend, the only spell using classes would be Sorcerer, cleric, druid or their futuristic equivalents, the thing is, Sorcerers are born with their abilities, much as Jedi are, and of course the gods choose who their clerics are, so both can be very rare if we want them to be. he rest of the Galaxy rarely ever sees magic. Magic is not believed in, there are legends, but people are given to tell tall tales about them. The Emperor had something to do with wiping out all the spellcasting classes, the ones that remain are in hiding, there are sorcerous bloodlines that till exist, and the gods still quietly choose their clerics and druids. There is an Evil Empire that rules the Galaxy, the Emperor is a high level sorcerer, though he keeps that fact a secret, he has a Cyborg assistant in black armor that also has sorcerous abilities. There are plenty of druids around, but as they avoid civilization, they are hard to find and hard for the Empire to track down and kill. Magical creatures are likewise no very common, The Empire hunts those down ruthlessly whenever they get a chance!
That would be an example of such a setting.

Or more easily, a pre-Empire Star Wars like setting.
With the actual Starfinder classes and an official order of "Knights" using them, but also plenty of more secretive groups floating around.
