Need ideas for offspring of a Goblin & Hobgoblin

Homebrew and House Rules

For my campaign, Hobgoblin will reproduce with Goblins.
What would be the result?

1) name for this new race (half goblin? hob-gob-goblin?)

2) appearance?

3) traits?

Thanks!

Gobhoblin

Size: Medium
Normal alignment: Neutral evil

Gobhoblins are typically sullen resentful creatures, loved by neither of their parents. Those who survive grow quickly to adulthood, tall and thin, but with strong sinews. They are quick and stealthy, and highly perceptive (and wary) of their surroundings. Although capable of great cruelty, they are willing to form temporary alliances with just about anyone for the sake of their own survival. Even then, they always keep their guard up, and prefer to sleep in a hiding place or behind a locked door rather than trust someone else to take watch.

This need to be in the Conversion/Suggestion/Homebrewed thread I think. Flag for a move.

Well it depends on what you want to get.
1) Bigger, smarter Goblins?
2) Smaller more agile Hobgoblins?
3) Somethnig completely different?
3.a) Worse quality of both races?
3.b) The Best quality of both races?
3.c) A completely new Race?

Another question, is it part of a breeding program or just naturally occuring?

(and If you have it I would recommand Dreamscarred Bloodforge. It's agreat book for creating Half-races.

Just spitballing here, but personally I would probably go with a Medium sized lanky race, about 4 feet, 4 feet 6, slightly big head, with a bit of pyromaniac tendency left in them. They would retain the Darkvision and stealth bonus of both parent race have a speed of 30, and get a +2 to dexterity, +2 to wisdom (to keep out of the way and thus stay alive), but a -4 (or -2 if part of the breeding program) to Charisma to represent their inferior status in the Hobgoblin military establishment.

By proud hobgoblins, this bastard should be referred to as half-hob. Half-goblin would indicate that the hobgoblin ancestry is of lesser worth, when in fact the opposite is true!

When it comes to racial traits, the big thing would probably be to define whether the crossbreed is of small or medium size. Or, quite reasonable, there could be an alternate trait which changes the half-hobgs size.

+2 Dex, +2 Con, -2 Cha
Humanoid (Goblinoid)
Medium
Base Speed: 30 ft
+4 racial bonus on Stealth checks
+2 racial bonus on Ride checks
Darkvision 60 ft. range

You could use the "Oversized Goblin" variant that is given in the Monster Codex (and available on the PRD).

You could have two different versions - a smaller one if its mother is a goblin, a larger one if she's a hobgoblin. See the Tigon and Liger for a real world example of how this could happen.

There are already official stats for a Medium goblin in the Monster Codex. Just use those to represent the half-breed. [PRD LINK]

Over-sized Goblins
A few goblins attain a much larger size than their kin. No one is exactly sure why they grow to be giants among their kind, but it’s probably due to a combination of luck, diet, and constant access to food. These goblins are monsters among their own kind, not just in height, but also in girth and in strength. If not cast out for eating all of the tribe’s food, over-sized goblins often become the bosses of their tribes, and the most powerful of them become chiefs. Over-sized goblins are Medium size, and grow to 4 to 5 feet tall. They tend to be particularly obese, weighing between 225 and 275 pounds. Instead of the normal racial ability score modifiers for goblins, over-sized goblins gain a +2 bonus to Strength, a +2 bonus to Dexterity, and a –2 penalty to Charisma.

True or even back in AD&D the Orog and Ogrillon were both an Ogre/Orc crossbreed. In the case of the Orog the sire was an orc, whereas in the case of the ogrillon the sire is an ogre and had distinct abilities.

Alright, perhaps I'm getting editions mixed up in my head. I thought the Big Three goblin races could breed interchangeably, and the offspring could go either way, with hobgobs and bugbears sometimes being born of pure goblin stock. Can anybody cite where this is referenced/disproved in Pathfinder? I'd be much obliged.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In my campaign, goblinoids are one species. The males are hobgoblins, the females are bugbears and the kids are goblins. Feels fresh to have sexually dimorphic species for once. To me at least.
