Looking through some cards, it got me thinking:
We have cards currently that say "Chose a card type other than Loot and draw a random card of that type from the box". I think the *intent* of the wording is pretty clear (you don't get access to ANY of the Loots in the box), however, unless I'm missing something, this doesn't seem quite mechanically correct.
Let's take the Loot item Scarab Brooch for example. I defeat Grave Goods, and I chose Item as the card type to randomly draw from the box. OK, so I can't target the Loot cards directly, but right there, on the Scarab Brooch it still says: "TYPE: ITEM". So, if I have to be pedantic about it, what I'd have to do is: shuffle together all Items from the box, including all Loot cards with the Item type (again, they may be Loot, but they're still ALSO Item!) and then draw a random card, which just may turn out to be Loot.
Am I missing something and there is a rule that contradicts the above? Because the only rule even remotely relevant seems to be Rulebook p.19:
"Loot cards count as cards of their type." and this seems to support my reading.
Also, if the above is correct, it would also apply to all cards that say something like "Draw a random Ally (etc.) from the box." so the ramifications would be pretty heavy.

I think this might sort of cover it:
Also, loot cards list a type, such as “weapon”; apart from the way loot cards are acquired, loot cards behave just like other boons of that type and count as cards of that type rather than loot when played.
And this also:
Loot cards count as cards of their type. For example, if your character’s Cards List specifies 3 items, and you keep 1 loot card with the item type when your rebuild your deck, your deck must contain exactly 2 other items.
So, to what extent does the "second" type of loot matter? Well, page 24 says that they counts as cards of that type rather than loot when played. And it also says that they behave just like other boons of that type, with the exception of how they are acquired. "Acquired" is perhaps maybe not the best word here after the other changes to the rules. I don't think it means "acquired" in the PACG sense of the word, but rather "how they are gained or become part of your character's cards" would seem more accurate.
So, how are boons typically "gained" for your character? Largely by finding them in locations and random rewards. The rules then say we should expect to not gain them that way.
I also think there is a clear implication for it in the beginning of the rulebook.
Each type of card has its own place in the box, so you’ll need to divide up the cards by type as shown in the illustration.
"Type" is used here, but the implication is that "loot" is a distinct type in this context. And the next paragraph sheds some more light on it:
When you use adventures, scenarios, locations, traders, scourges, cohorts, villains, henchmen, and loot, you’ll often be asked to locate specific cards. You may wish to alphabetize the cards within each of those types to help you find them quickly during play. Group the character, token, and role cards by character. The other card types should have their cards shuffled, as you will often be asked to draw random cards from those groups.
Loot is specifically called out in the first sentence. That means it isn't part of the "other card types" in the last sentence. Which means we shouldn't be expecting to draw random cards from any of the ones called out. And I'm not sure if anything does (while scourges are given randomly, it isn't by drawing a random card, but from the chart). There seems to be a slight distinction of type between what we might call "box type" and "in-game type". Loot is just loot for box type. It is loot plus the second type for in-game type.

I think this perfectly identifies what was bothering me. Thanks for the extensive write-up, Hawk. I can now go ahead and worry if "summon and encounter random monster" should make me draw a random Korramzadeh from the box... :D
