Wand of Adhesive Spittle (CL 1) Viable with Preparation?

Rules Questions

Last session, I threw a net at an enemy for the first time. I was so proud. I hit the cleric's mirror image, but I would have entangled him. My eyes lit up with joy.

I've been eying different 1st level spells to pick up as a wand, and Adhesive Spittle was very attractive, especially in comparison to the net, where I would have penalties for firing into melee (which will often be the case) and nonproficiency.

Problem is, at first level, the spell only lasts 1 round. The casting time is 1 standard action and spitting the tanglefoot-bag-proxy is a standard action as well. So, I would not be able to activate the wand in the same round and then spit.

But a few sessions ago, I attacked a zombie with a CLW wand and missed the touch attack, but the wand still held a charge. Can I do the same thing with an adhesive spittle wand? Can I activate it, hold a charge for at least a round, maybe more, and then thwack myself as something less than a standard action and then use it when combat initiates? If I understand the RAW, it seems like that would be a viable option. I've done some digging on the boards, and I see that touch spells like shocking grasp would work, but this one is considered personal. But, because it is a wand (and like mage armor, you can thwack someone else with it) does that mean that it has become a touch spell?

If it was viable, what sorts of actions would dispel the charge? Could I hand the wand to a party member? Could I 'Inspire Courage?'

First up, the writing on Adhesive Spittle is absolutely atrocious for exactly the reason you mentioned; the casting time is one standard action, but it takes a standard action to spit. It literally means that before 2nd level it's useless because it doesn't have the phrase "You can spit as part of the standard action to cast the spell, or choose to spit later as a standard action within the duration of the spell." Ask your GM if this is cool with them, because this would literally solve your problem.

Secondly, no. Adhesive Spittle is not a "touch spell". It does not require a melee or ranged touch attack. It is an effect that targets you and enables you to spit a substance. You cannot "hold the charge" of a spell that does not require a melee touch attack. Also, even if using a wand, your hand is holding the touch spell, not the wand. A wand does not magically make a spell a touch spell by virtue of it being in a wand.

Well, I figured that if it could be used this way, then people would have already mentioned it. Still, a Wand of Tanglefoot Bag would have been nice. I'm playing PFS right now, so I doubt it would fly consistently, so it would be better to use the wand and Prestige Points for something else.

Thank you for your time. My hopes are dashed, but I am glad to be certain and be able to spend my time and effort in more fruitful pastures.
