Simple enough question. I have a wizard routinely has a high level of energy resistance. I want to cast a Contingency with a Detonate spell in it, to go off whenever attacked in melee.
Is this rules-legal? Contingency states that "The spell to be brought into effect by the contingency must be one that affects your person..." Detonate is a 30-ft radius spread, but it does auto-target on your character.
(I suspect the answer is no, despite how fun it would be, but I'm really hoping someone tells me otherwise)

Wait, does this text interfere?
"One round after completing the casting of the spell, the energy explodes from your body.
"Either it would not be legal for Contigency or it would block up 1 round after being attacked.
Full disclosure: I'm the GM.
I figured it would do the explosion thing a round after being attacked -- which I actually see as a plus, as it gives the player a tactical decision to make ("Do I want to keep hitting this guy and take a Detonate to the face next round, or should I run for the hills?")

Strictly speaking it doesn't work because detonate is an area centered on you, rather than targeting you in particular. That said, Rise of the Runelords has an enemy who uses it to destroy her body and get off one last blast, if I recall correctly, and I haven't seen a lot of people mentioning issues with it there; your foe might just have a quirky contingency of some sort.

Oho! Well then, that seems good enough for me. Which enemy/module, if I might ask?
