1 / 2 price alchemy

Homebrew and House Rules

Alchemy items seem way overcosted for the effect they provide. I've been thinking of reducing the gold piece cost to create/purchase them by 1/2. Any concerns that this change would "break the game?".

It won't break the game by any stretch of the imagination.

This said, alchemical products aren't overpriced, and you can craft them yourself at one third price. So I see this as a non-issue.

Mundane crafting takes a long time unless you're an alchemist with a super high alchemy and special abilities to craft faster.

Alchemy items are overpriced because you can craft them at 1/3 the price, which is really cheap for what some of the items can do. I considered houseruling them at 2/3 the price and then using my simplified crafting houserules that make craftings costs be 1/2 the price of the item. This would reduce the price of alchemy items while keeping the crafting cost the same.

I thought alchemy took 1/2 the market price to craft. Oooops! I can adjust my campaign.

I reduced market prices to 45% for obscure reasons; 50% really would be better. It hasn't broken the game yet. Oddly, no one leaped at Craft (alchemy) like I expected. And even though I dropped a good-hearted Alchemist shop at the PCs' feet, distributed a price list, complete w/ descriptions of the items, at a point when they had money to spend -- very little alchemical stuff has been bought. Of course, we've only reached 3rd level so far.

Alchemical items just don't have much pizzazz to them. And they're one and all consumable. I'd say, "Go for it!"
