Astrological timing

Advice

This is the sort of fun, focused little feat that nobody ever takes.

Astrological Timing

You can perform more accurate auguries according to planetary movements in relation to the Cosmic Caravan. Prerequisite: Ability to cast augury as a spell or spell-like ability.

Benefit: You can use a cosmogram or star chart as an optional focus component for augury. When you do, the augury can account for consequences up to 1 hour into the future, and your chance of a successful reading increases by 4%. If you also consult a calculating standard orrery or calculating grand orrery, the augury can see up to 1 day into the future and your chance of success increases by 8%.

A cosmogram costs 200 gp and a calculating orrery costs 1,500 gp. Just for reference, the Augury spell can be foundover here.

This could actually be pretty handy for midlevel PCs, especially if they're in a social or urban campaign that's less about "should we open this door" and more about "should I accept Queen Ileosa's invitation". At high levels casting a better Augury becomes kind of pointless -- you'll have much better methods of gathering information -- but then you can just retrain something else into that feat slot. (Assuming your DM allows retraining, which he should.)

It's also a nice NPC feat, if you're the sort of DM who cares about how NPCs get the information they pass along. Got a party of low-level PCs in Sandpoint or Korvosa or Harrowstone or wherever, and think they might need the occasional bit of guidance? Add an astrologer NPC who's a 5th level diviner wizard, or perhaps a cleric of Desna, living in a tower on the edge of town. He's friendly and helpful to the PCs, and will cast Auguries for them, asking only the very occasional errand in return.

Has anyone actually used this feat, at all?

Wait, why did this double-post? Sorry, all -- not intended.

Never even used Augury.

Given that the game involves a group of people and dice, the future is undivinable for the average GM anyway - so why force them to paint themselves in a corner?

Oh, I don't have a problem with /that/. "Weal", "Woe", or "Weal and Woe" are pretty vague and general, after all. And most of the time, you'll have a pretty reasonable idea, no? If they accept the Queen's invitation, she's planning to have them all thrown in jail -- woe. If the PCs cut a deal with the kobold tribe, the kobolds will keep their side of the bargain, and may even become loyal servants of their new kingdom - weal. And so forth.

PF is weakish on interesting divination - prophecy - prediction type spells. This feat takes a meh one and makes it potentially pretty good.
