Help making a "disabler" spiritualist.

Advice

For a phantom i considered using jealousy, for the level 7 aura, using antagonize from level 1 with incorporeal should work quite well, and then picking combat advice and battle cry.

For the spiritualist im stuck on which feats to pick, i know about the dazzling display route, but what else can you guys suggest?

I personally dont intend to go either the touch route, which the wizard debuffer makes irrelevant or the dps route, which the party archer makes irrelevant, i wanted a niche where it isnt directly going toe to toe and losing by miles.

Maybe take the Onmyoji archetype? There's plenty of ranged buff, debuff or control cleric spells.

Hum indeed something to consider.

While i do wonder if it is worth it? The phantom is handy with antagonize, granted it gets better with more lvls and the lvl 7 aura, and this archetype doesnt allow you to cast the extra spells if you dont have it in your mind.

Another option if one would trully decide to go caster no matter what would be pick samsaran and "fix" the spell list, the issue with this would be the number of spells per day, so this does make for an valid option i guess.

What im loking for personally if more around melee builds that allow it to have battlefield presence without being the main caster or dmg dealer, thus dazzling display or maybe pushing assault become an option.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

OK, but you said you were against touch attack spells. Combat maneuvers, pushing assault etc. are similar to but usually weaker than those.

Wolf Style w/Dirty Fighting, Improved Trip and your phantom to flank isn't bad. Or you could make use of Monkey Style and Intrepid Rescuer between your phantom and yourself to set up a trap. Or you could go all-in on Dazzling Display - you'll need to be a hobgoblin - and pick up feats which build on it, Disheartening Display, Motivating Display etc.

Yeah, options like these are exactly what im looking for. Thanks.

Overall this class has very few spells, unless the fights end really fast, being caster focused and having to cast touch on each enemy would end all spells for sure at lower levels and honestly change little. On the other hand a combat focused can keep on going and use spells for other things, granted it wont be the best thing ever, but atleast it can keep spells for outside of combat utility.

This is just my experience with the class and im not the best player ever ofc, maybe others have solutions i didnt even think off.

Hmm. I'd thought the spiritualist list had some multi-touch attack spells but I was wrong.

If those schemes are what you're after, here's a few more.

Grab a longspear and combat reflexes and start tripping people from outside their reach. The tandem trip teamwork feat on you and your phantom might be worthwhile. Since trip is not a thing which ages well you might want to skip any more trip feats (improved trip & similar) and switch to something else once you have enough spell slots to use at least lower level touch spells. (The wolf style thing turns into the ability to curse enemies on AoOs eventually rather than remaining a trip forever.)

Dirty tricks stay good a bit longer so spending multiple feats is more useful. Dirty fighting to start with, improved dirty trick for you if not your phantom, then maybe the underhanded teamwork & improved version (both phantom & master) or maybe kitsune style/tricks/vengeance (just the spiritualist).

If you're willing to take a level dip for heavy armor (steelblood bloodrager maybe) then there are things you can do with overrun. Power attack, improved overrun, bulette style is the basic set of feats. More of the style chain, charge through, spiked destroyer can keep you busy thereafter. It's not a lot to do with the spiritualist class aside from leaving the phantom to slam the people you leave prone behind you, I admit.
