Multiclass Familiars

Rules Questions

If take 1 level of eldritch guardian fighter, then at 2nd level I take a level in another class that grants me a familiar, do I get two familiars or does my original familiar just advance in level?

(I was originally thinking of going from eldritch guardian fighter to carnivalist rogue which explicitly states "Levels in a class that grants a familiar stack with carnivalist levels for determining the familiar's abilities." so that's not a problem... but then i got to thinking if other familiar giving classes function the same way.)

PS: This character would be PFS rules, if that changes anything or helps somehow.

An entry for the general rules of familiars states: "Levels of different classes that are entitled to familiars stack for the purpose of determining any familiar abilities that depend on the master's level."

So you could be a 4th level wizard and 4th level arcane bloodline sorcerer, and your familiar would scale as if the master were an 8th level single class.

Note, however, that there are shenanigans: A level 10 wizard with "eldritch heritage: Arcane", for example, might make you think you have a level 18 familiar, but there was a FAQ about character levels in general. You never count the same character level twice for a single class ability, so you can never get your familiar above your character level unless there's some ability that specifically states you calculate the familiar's abilities as if you were higher level.

Ah, cheers for the quote, I knew id seen it somewhere but couldn't find it, thanks for the help Johnny!
