I have a character who has just finished a module and is about to level up on the pre-gen credit from it.
They have 1548 to spend and 4 Prestige Points.
Character is a Sword and Board fighter with Exotic Weapon Prof.: Bastard Sword).
What sort of things are available/should I look at in CORE?
I've been running the numbers but getting a bit of a headache comparing the armors, for example.
Would really like to get a suit of Full Plate for story/background reasons, but could go half-plate or even a heavier 'medium' armor if necessary...
Thank you very much for your time in advance!

What sort of armour you want to buy may depend on whether you ever intend to invest in mithril full plate. You don't really want to invest in regular full plate and then have to resell it. If you aren't going mithril then just buy the regular now. If you are consider a regular breastplate, you lose far less when you come to sell it later on.
For prestige there is obviously the ever present happy stick for 2pp or you may want to invest in a ranged weapon, a Str+3 darkwood composite bow is 730gp.

I also wouldn't neglect mundane gear. Masterwork tools are 50gp, a reasonable supply of alechemist's fire and acid is useful for swarms, antitoxin is core, a backup weapon may be useful, low level scrolls for the caster's to use on you may well also help (lesser resto, levitate/spider climb can all help deal with common situations) and don't forget to check your chronicles for other useful things.
Also remember there is basically no reason to not make your normal weapons cold iron. Depending on what you are using then other weapon damage types also help as well as having a silver weapon. Morning stars are good for being B and P.

I would like to have gauntlets and a helmet as part of the armor for story reasons, so a breastplate, while affordably priced, doesn't quite 'fit'?
And good idea about the tools/gear.
Would getting a masterwork bastard sword be too far off the mark? Not silver, that takes a hit on damage, and cold iron may have the issue of double price for the first enchantment...

A MW weapon is a common early purchase, I would still make it cold iron. You pay more for the first enchant or you buy a regular one and enchant that. Cold Iron DR is pretty common.
I tend to buy a MW tool for perception and diplomacy but bear in mind they are supposed to be limited in either what elements of the skill they affect or number of uses. You may value other skills.

But yeah, because of the aiming for Mithril Plate Armor (doesn't have to be of Speed even) it's going to be a while before an upgrade.
