Mage's Magnificent Mansion Questions

Rules Questions

Is there a metamagic feat that would let me increase the internal area of my Mage's Magnificent Mansion? Going from 3 ten foot cubes per level to, well...more?

Also, could you use permanency on the MMM spell?

You apparently can't use Permanency on Mage's Magnificent Mansion. Look into Create Demiplane instead.

As for metamagic feats, I don't think there's anything that might help. There are, however, ways to increase your caster level. Like a Orange prism ioun stone. And higher caster level nets you more cubes to build with.

More accurately MMM is not listed as one of the spells that works with Permanency. But it is called out that the GM might allow additional options, so thats the place to ask.

Create Demi-Plane is the same level
You can define your demi-plane however you wish, including a castle
Create Demi-Plane can be made permanent
Multiple castings of Create Demi-Plane can create a larger space.

Keeping in mind that you have to use permanency for every casting that increases the size of the demiplane. So if you use three castings worth of size you'll need three permanency spells (at 17,500-22,500 gold a pop, depending on whether or not you use lesser, vanilla, or greater). Alternatively you can just recast the spells regularly to renew them, but if you miss your deadline you end up losing the plane and everyone/everything being dumped into the astral/ethereal plane.

Also, using the spell to create features (see vanilla/greater descriptions) does not require permanency and will last until the plane vanishes or you change them via another casting of the spell.

Best thing about MMM is the "nobody can enter without your permission" part. Other than that it's just a really really nice campground.

Entering a demiplane without permission is somewhat made difficult by the fact that, logically speaking, no one should have a focus tuned to it for plane shift, and if you put it on the ethereal plane rather than the astral plane you can't use astral projection to get there. Creatures with plane shift as a SLA can still come in, though.

Not saying it's easy, but it is possible to enter another demiplane. Less so with proper precautions.

One needs to know that it exists for starters. Any caster worth his salt doesn't exactly advertise his secret home away from home.

You've convinced me. I'm officially a convert to the Create Demiplane spells.

Thanks much!

What about this MetaMagic Feat?

Widen Spell (Metamagic)
You can cast your spells so that they occupy a larger space.

Benefit: You can alter a burst, emanation, or spread-shaped spell to increase its area. Any numeric measurements of the spell's area increase by 100%. A widened spell uses up a spell slot three levels higher than the spell's actual level.
Spells that do not have an area of one of these four sorts are not affected by this feat.

Does not give an Area description for it, so I suppose no...

Only if your definition of campground is a Holiday Inn. (mine is) It's got food service, comfy beds, and rooms made to order.

Nope, not a burst, emanation, or spread. Also you'd need a 10th level spell slot to cast it, unless you had a way to lower the spell slot

That's what ultra high power divinations are for... especially those standard ones more powerful than spells that you get with the right sacrifice or calling in an celestial (or infernal) favor.
