Needing help with Heavy armor prof on a mount

Advice

Scarab Sages

Are there any ways to get heavy armor prof on a mount without spending feats from the mount?

I don't mind spending feats on the rider or taking lvls in different classes, prestige classes or archtypes.

THe only shortening i've stumbled over so far is cavalier mounts starting with light armor prof.

Not any way I know. Thw charger archetype for companions gets barding training, much like fighter's armor training.

Helps, but I'm fighting to get a feat earlier, unfortunately the feat require heavy armor prof.

And having to take medium armor prof, and heavy armor prof would see the feat having to be the 7'th feat the mount gets which means it's unlikely to ever see action :(

THough if the mount could get the "armor training class feature" that would be a way to cut it down.

A War- or Combat-trained animal (like a warhorse) is taught to wear armor. If you use Handle Animal to train an animal with Combat Training, then it is assumed to be trained for wearing barding.

So once it's trained (by yourself or an animal trainer) or bought, it is assumed to be able to wear barding/armor as though trained. Animals seem to be the only creature with this caveat, so if your mount is a magical beast or something else, it would need a feat or other ability (such as having armor in its creature entry) to do so.
