Multi Class & Multi Gods?

Pathfinder Society

So I have a question if may character is both a cleric and an inquisitor can I worship two different gods?

Technically, the Pathfinder rules don't say anything against it (as far as I am aware), but in practice, it should only work if the deities would let you dual worship as a single class character -- think of Sorcerer and Bloodrager Bloodlines (if you have both classes, the Bloodlines must match).

No.

For purposes of PFS you can only gain benefits (such as divine casting) from worshiping one god.

Grand Lodge 4/5

Your PFS character can only worship one god. Class levels don't change this.

Just gave me an idea for a NG Iomedean Cleric/Zealot vigilante Besmara is trying to "steal". Probably for a home game.

That said, I think the rules were thought up for single class characters and I would read carefully and if after going through them, I found a that the reading of the rules backed you up, I would carry a printout of that rule to make sure everything is kosher.

Disk Elemental's "No" I think is the rule. But it is the kind of thing that might get a reaction that people might mistakenly but honestly make without actually looking.

So when looking at such things look and read for yourself.

No. seriously. That is the rule. People have looked it up. It's not a knee jerk reaction. It's not stomping on someone's fun.

If you think you've found some clever way around the rules DO double check it with the community. The rules are wonky enough that something in one spot might seem to imply that something may possibly be possible or isn't strictly forbidden. It might be legal... or it might not. You could seriously mess up a character you think is legal only to get told it doesn't work.

In this case it's not even table variation, it's flat out no.

Worship: In this context, worship refers to a
relationship held between a PC and a deity where the
PC, in exchange for his dedicated worship, gains a
mechanical benefit (e.g. a cleric’s spells and abilities, a
deity-specific feat or trait, special functions of magical
weapons, or prerequisites for a prestige class). PCs may
only worship one campaign-legal deity
and must always
be within one step of their chosen deity’s alignment[/b]. See
page 24 for more rules on worshiping a deity and how to
change the deity a PC worship

What a strange coincidence. I brought this up with one of my home groups on Sunday. I had a nearly identical character concept (paladin of x/warpriest of y). I'd planned to pose this very question on the messageboards, but now that won't be necessary. I am curious enough now, though, to look closer at the rules and find the actual passage(s) that make this prohibition.

Looks like BNW cited the passage for me. I'd have to get GM buy-in in a non-PFS home game to try my idea.

If you want to play with the concept, multi-classing a worshipper with something like an oracle or witch might give you the flavour you want. I have a dwarf sorcerer/oracle that deals with the conflict of his bloodline and his curse/oracle powers, and it is interesting.

home-game derail:
While the idea of a character who one god is trying to recruit from another sounds cool, think about it from the divine point of view - if you are accepting powers from Asmodeus, why would Iomedae still give you powers? Even in a less clear-cut case, why would a divine being grant you powers if you're moonlighting with another god? Divine powers aren't granted just for writing a god's name down on a piece of paper, they are for worship, service, devotion... I'm pretty sure most gods would want worshipers to be loyal and monogamous. Rules for pantheons might allow this, but even then I don't think they would let you cherry-pick whatever gods you want.

Thematically it might work for say, a Calden Cayden Calistrian pairing,

or maybe if Asmodeous/Iomedae its a LN character and "mom" and "dad" are fighting over them?

The Order of the Godclaw says hi.

That's a good way to get a 5-deity pantheon although you still need to pick a favorite one to actually worship.

Yes, in a non-PFS Golarion game I would only allow worship of multiple gods if they were in a defined pantheon, or if there was a defined relationship between the deities that was part of what was being explored with the character.

Like say, Cleric of Pharasma, Inquisitor of Naderi (since Naderi used to be Pharasma's herald, before accidentally acquiring her own portfolio).

Shelyn, not Pharasma; and servitor, not herald. ^_^

Thank you. Servitor was what I meant to say. Could happen to anyone.

Confusing Shelyn and Pharasma on the other hand...urk!

"i'm so pretty, oh so pretty, oh so pretty and witty and...."

looks around at skull motifs and shambling ghosts just seperated from their loved ones.

You can venerate second deity. It's almost like worshipping. But you can only gain mechanical benefit from one deity. So multiclassing doesn't work for gaining benefit from two deities.

I have Tsukiyo's paladin that venerates Shizuru. It can be used as fluff at least.

For multideity characters oracle works the best, since you don't gain any direct benefit from any. My oracle worships Nethys, Desna and Tsukiyo and carries around all 3 holy symbols.

Oops -- missed that this was a PFS-specific thread. If not for that, some Earth cultures ascribe benefits to worshipping more than one deity, but PFS isn't set on Earth . . . .
