I knew about that feat, but it's 3rd party, like you said.
When I work on builds of questionable balance, I try and stick to pazio sources.
Mostly trying to see how much theoretical hp you can get from lay on hands and that spell, using the spell to help (but not totally avoid) just getting beaten down to fast to heal.
Fey foundling, paying a teifling, are both good for it.

Greater Mercy also gives you an extra 1d6.
... unless you're playing a Tortured Crusader. I love that archetype but sadly it locks you out of a bunch of Paladin feats.

Any other lay on hands stuff people know?
There are quite a few feats:
Crusader's Fist
Hands of Valor
Extra Lay on Hands (especially useful since you make the individual application more powerful)
Radiant Charge
Word of Healing
Channel Surge
Reactive Healing
Extra Mercy
Ultimate Mercy
Cleansing Burst
And there is at least one trait:
Blessed Touch
