The Necromancer's Blade

Advice

In my current game I am playing a Wizard Necromancer and I recently became a mythic character. I chose a legendary item and chose the dagger I was using in my moment of ascension. It has the "upgradable" ability which reads:

This ability grants the bonded creature the ability to more easily increase the non-mythic magical power of the legendary item. If the base magic item has a version with a higher bonus or greater version (such as a +1 longsword, a +2 light steel shield, a cloak of protection +3, an amulet of might fists +4, or a minor ring of inner fortitude), the bonded creature can improve it by performing a special ritual. She must spend a number of gold pieces equal to half the difference between the cost of the legendary item's current, non-mythic base item and the greater version she wishes to upgrade the item into. For example, she would pay 3,000 gp to upgrade a +1 longsword into a +2 longsword. This ritual takes 8 hours. When it's completed, the bonded creature transmutes the item's base version into the desired version. When upgraded in this fashion, the legendary item retains all legendary item abilities it had before the transmutation.

I'm trying to find something that would be useful to me but most weapon enchants require you to attack, and usually crit, with the weapon for the enchant to proc. So, you can see the problem. Being a wizard, I don't want anything to do with melee combat. We are playing a 3.x game so any 3e, 3.5e, or Pathfinder stuff is open to us.
I've been leaning towards the Bone Razor:

but I have a feeling that there is probably something out there that is better. Any advice would be appreciated. Bonus points for necromantic flavor.

Reading the ability, I'm not sure it can upgrade a weapon to a specific magical item, can it? It looks like it's more about improving the bonus on the item itself.

If that's not right, maybe try the Necromancer's Athame? It's only in the shape of a dagger, but your GM may be willing to allow it based off the item used.

It seems as though he is allowing me to make it into a specific magic item if I want. The problem with the Necromancers Athame is that I have a familiar and I don't want to give him up, so I can't take a bonded item. Maybe one of the spell-storing or spell catching items would be good.

Maybe see if it would be allowed to put a rod or staff enchantment on it?
