Need help picking the perfect vanity.

So my VC just introduced me to the concept of vanities at our last session, and I have to say that I'm hooked. That said, I've looked through the Pathfinder Society Field Guide and I was distraught to find that the vanities are somewhat specific in what they give you, and I'm struggling to find a vanity that supports my character.

Specifically, my character is a swashbuckling hibachi chef and I'm looking for a vanity that interacts with my Profession (cook) skill. Some sort of restaurant is preferred. Anyone know if a vanity like this exists outside of the Pathfinder Society Field Guide somewhere?

Sorry I forgot that those vanities were so limiting. The Pathfinder Society Primer does have this Vanity.

Job checks, though if you ever roll a natural 1 on such a check, you receive no income from the attempt, regardless of your normal bonuses on the check. A natural 1 rolled in such a circumstance can’t be rerolled.

You could fluff it as one of those illegal restaurants that cook endangered species. Though the risk of rolling a 1 (though you could just take 10) would always be there.

Hirokyu's Lawful Good, though, so it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for him to own and operate an illegal restaurant. : /

Well, actually, there is a way to fluff it so that you don't risk your alignment, while the restaurant is definitely considered illicit:

Run a restaurant for halflings (slips) in Cheliax.

And, honestly, wouldn't the Silver Crusade just want to support that establishment?
And, of course, the Andorans/Liberty's Edge would want to talk you into making it a railroad stop.

I don't know if I agree with that. If Cheliax's government condones the wholesale of goods to halflings, then how is owning a shop that caters to them Lawful? (Or profitable, for that matter.)

In any case, Hirokyu belongs to the Sovereign Court, so I can't justify him going to Cheliax to run an illegal business.

Is he Taldan? An 'underground' restaurant in Andoran or Cheliax, serving traditional Taldan food, with Taldan chamber music. Kind of a 'return to the motherland' themed speakeasy.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You could buy the ship vanity (10 pp) and flavor it as a riverboat restaurant/pleasure-boat. You wouldn't need to use it for day job checks, but whenever the scenario has the PCs travel by boat, you can have that be your boat, and make Profession (cook) checks to feed everyone on the trip out.

Silver Crusade 5/5

You could buy a Theater, and style it as a dinner theater type establishment.

You could have a Herald, to introduce you Iron Chef style.

Sorry it's been a long day and my search fu is weak atm, but I thought there was a bar owner/operator vanity that may work.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

There's Tavern, but it gives a bonus to Profession (Barkeep), *not* Profession (Cook). Kind of a pity that the vanity wasn't written slightly more flexibly.
