OK I just need to check this because I'm playing a witch in a mythic game and I finally have some spells worth making mythic.
Are the Mythic Spell Lore feat and the Mythic Spellcasting Universal Path Ability functionally identical except that Mythic Spellcasting has a limitation of being able to be taken only three times? Or did I misread something?

Prerequisite(s): Ability to cast spells.
Benefit: You can learn a number of mythic spells equal to your tier and can expend mythic power when casting them to enhance the results. To select a mythic spell, you must be able to cast the non-mythic version or have it on your list of spells known. Every time you gain a new tier, you can select an additional mythic spell.
Special: You can select this feat multiple times. Each time you select this feat, you must select different spells.
Mythic Spellcasting (Ex)
You can learn a number of mythic spells equal to your tier and can expend mythic power when casting them to enhance the results. To select a mythic spell, you must be able to cast the non-mythic version or have it on your list of spells known. Every time you gain a new tier, you can select an additional mythic spell. You can take this ability up to three times. Each additional time you take it, you can select an additional number of spells equal to your tier and you gain one additional mythic spell whenever you gain a tier.
They are in fact identical, other than the path ability having a limit.
Note though that depending on what you want out of your character, either path abilities or mythic feats might be more important to you than the other. So having the ability to choose which one you spend to get mythic spells is useful.

It is there, so don't worry about that and use it as you like :)
The feat and ability are almost the same: the feat has a prerequisite (must be able to cast spells) while the ability does not. I don't know what someone without spellcasting might want from the ability, but I am sure that someone from the Department of Improbable Builds does ;)

So the real question is. Why? When there is a mythic feat that allows you to choose a path ability and a path ability that allows you to pick a feat, it seems like wasted ink.
(Devils advocate thought)
Is it just so at tier one you can have both and get more mythic spells perhaps?Just my 10 cents.
So that those following the Magic Paths can get more use of that ability if they wish to.
