Does spiked gauntet allow spellcasters to use somatic components?

Does spiked gauntet allow spellcasters to use somatic components? (counts as "free hand")?

1. For arcane spellcasters. (and suitable arcane spell failure chance if applicable)

2. For divine spellcasters.

I didn't find direct rules for this question.

P.S. The question raised by Cleric, he want to wear spiked gauntlet to be both armed and allowed to cast spells single hand, second is occupied with shield.

P.P.S. My first suggestion was "No, he can't.", but spiked gauntlet is variant of basic gauntlet, which is basic for medium and heavy armor (except breastplate), and Clerics can wear medium armor without any problems with casting.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It basically acts like a hand, and it is a part of armor(but primarily a weapon), but not armor by itself so it has no negative impact on casting.

Agreed. There's no rule ... until you hit the locked gauntlet which calls itself out as preventing spellcasting. Same with heavy shields.

Ok, thanks to all, i came to same decision.

Also, the cleric counts as armed from his shield, if this is about flanking. It's just not recommended to attack with it without all of the other feats that go with that.
