Fly skill bonuses from the Fly spell

Rules Questions

The Fly spell grants a creature a fly speed with Good maneuverability. According to the Fly skill entry, a Good maneuverability nets a creature a +4 bonus on their Fly skill. The Fly spell then goes on to grant the target a bonus to its Fly skill equal to 1/2 the caster's CL. I don't see why they wouldn't but I'm just making sure the subject of a Fly spell receives both these bonuses.

So a 10th level Wizard casts Fly on himself, gaining a Fly speed with Good maneuverability, and a +9 to his Fly skill (+4 from Good maneuverability, and +5 from 1/2 his CL), correct?

Correct.

It would suck if a spell called Fly didn't actually help you fly.

I used to think that the maneouverability from the skill didn't apply to magical flight - Relevant FAQ ruled against me :)

Despite the fact that the Fly skill mentions that bonuses and penalties from maneuverability apply to creatures with natural fly speeds, they apply for any fly speed.

It only adds the +5 from half the caster level. That's still an aid to the fly skill.

It does. It gives a minimum of +2 from the minimum caster level needed to cast the spell and scales up from there. At 10th level, that caster level boost of+5 is better than what a flat +4 would give you.

I am confused. Are you trying to say that a character affected by Fly doesn't get the +4 from Good maneuverability? If that is the case, then there is an FAQ that explicitly disagrees with you.

The FAQ seems pretty explicit. Why would the target of the spell not get the maneuverability bonus? You know, like beyond a flat assertion that it does not.

I haven't seen this FAQ, I'm going by what the spell text says. if the maneuverabilty were more than just flavor text it should have specified the additional +4.

It has already been mentioned.
