Unarmed Fighter and martial weapons

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

Hi all,

"An unarmed fighter is not proficient with medium armor, heavy armor, or shields. An unarmed fighter is proficient with all monk weapons, including exotic monk weapons."

I assume that it is just modifying the fighter description here. In other words, they are proficient with light armor and are still proficient with all martial weapons. It is just that they can't use medium+ armor/shields and get access to monk weapons as well?

The Weapon and Armor Proficiency entry doesn't say it replaces the normal fighter's proficiencies, so just take it as a modification, so the unarmed fighter is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, light armor, and all weapons with the "monk" quality.

Scarab Sages

It's up for interpretation is they are also proficient in the Urumi and Tri-point double-edged sword, the two weapons in the monk fighter weapon group but without the monk quality, or the temple sword, which has the monk quality but is not in the weapon group.

The question has been posed before. That they retain seems to be the most common opinion, though it's never been specifically ruled on that I can find. RAW seems to agree with that opinion, though I'd question whether it's RAI or just badly written.
