Hello forum folks, looking for a bit of advice. A friend and I are thinking of building a tag team from the Fairy Tail anime. The characters are Sting and Rogue, a pair of men who use light magic and shadow magic, each specialized in one type. They are referred to as dragon slayers and all magics are dragon themed.
Sting, which is who I'm looking to build, is the Light Dragon Slayer, and as such uses Light based attacks. Most of his attacks appear to he hardened light, and lasors. He's an expert in hand to hand combat, and close-mid range energy blasts. So far Ive come up with a Kineticist with a 1-2 lvl dip into brawler for unarmed fighting and martial flex to mix up my melee, and range combat styles. We decided on kineticist because of the ability to merge blasts with interweave blast. The class isnt set in stone, but combined energy attacks is required. Dragon themed helps
Does this seem like a viable idea, we normally roll out stats, and all pathfinder races are available. Proper character wealth is provided.

Brawler / kineticist is a very weak character. Neither offers any synergy at all to the other, and neither is a strong class on its own.
If I'm understanding you though you want some melee ability (unarmed?), blasting, and telekinesis or some sort of knockback on the blasts, and/or possibly some sort of force fields, depending on what 'hardened light' means. The blasts should ideally be something interpretable as light; fire or force should work.
I'd suggest an elemental (fire) bloodline sorcerer with the eldritch scrapper archetype. It's not as powerful as some options, but far more than a brawler / kineticist. Snowball converted to fire by the bloodline arcana is a start, magic missile with toppling spell added on will look like hardened light as may mage armor, and you add more elemental or force effects or melee buffs as you level up.
Alternately magus can take a brawler dip better than kineticist. Maybe eldritch scion archetype if you want the elemental (fire) bloodline. Focus on fire, force and buffs sgain.

Take a look at Kineticists of Porphyra 1 by N.Jolly, published by Purple Duck Games.
Yes it is third party, but it is well balanced and it introduces new elements, one of which is light!
It has a primary blast of hardened light and then a lot of illusion and other interesting utility.
That book also has the Kinetic Duelist archetype, which essentially makes Kinetic blade your main focusite and changes up a few other class abilities to make you more melee focused.
An excellently written book and it is even better because if you ask questions about it here the author is likely to pop in and answer!

That is when I have time, but yeah, it does sound like it'd help with the ideas the poster is talking about.
