Pregens and Boons

I was on another thread that was discussing pregens. The issue being should we be able to apply and use faction boons from/for the character the exp. is going to? It led to a post by [Andrew Christian], "The pregen is not really a separate character. Its a proxy stat block for your character"; :If the character's paperpwork is not present, then you can only work with the gold earned on the chronicle sheet and the pregen's gear."

1.This indicates that if you have the paperwork for the character that you're going to apply the exp. to you can use money at the very least, consumables as a possibility, and maybe even equipment and other gear (your paladin is observing a religious holiday so lent his/her armor to a comrade to aid in their quest for good/to smite non-believers?).

Part 1 was just what was stated and what could be reasonably interpreted from Andrew's post, this next one will need a definitive ruling from paizo.

2.The post mentions paperwork, this obviously means character sheet and maybe inventory sheet, but what about chronicle sheets? If you're going to adventure in Irrisen can you use the boon you have that lets you ignore cold temps. like an endure elements spell but only for cold, thoughts?

No and no. Yes, the pre-gen functions as a proxy for your character, but it is a character designed to stand alone. It exists as its own entity that can provide credit for one of your characters, but it is not something that your characters can help.

The whole "proxy stat block" idea has never been eluded to in previous editions of the Guide, and I've never come across such language before this Season.

It may have been the understanding of Campaign Leadership previously, but if it was, it was sure kept secret.

I agree. I will admit to not having wrapped my brain around it and to having a visceral dislike for it.

Apart from ridding yourself of conditions with your "real" PC's gold, I think pregens are supposed to be self-contained while playing them.

I realize that sounds a bit odd since I'm (in the other thread) arguing that pregens should mirror your faction, but I do see a difference between the pregen being a stand-in for your own PC, and the pregen "getting" anything from your PC. I expect a pregen to come with the same "package" no matter who plays it.

That's a very good point.

A newbie and a veteran show up to a 3-5 module and grab a 4th level Pregen.

Party TPKs.

Newbie has zero resources, and is issued a death Chronicle.

Veteran claims they have gold (still unclear on how this works) and isn't issued a death Chronicle.

How does this look to the newbie?

It's still kind of hard to do even for the veteran, since a L4 veteran means the PC you're applying it to has to be L1-3. (L1-5 for a 3-5 pregen-only module).

Both the veteran and the newbie are asked to look at the resources of the PC that at the start of the session they'd chosen as the beneficiary of the chronicle. The newbie looks at his L1 PC (or no PC whatsoever) and can't find the gold. The veteran looks at his maybe L3 PC and sells almost everything just to keep <= 6 XP worth of adventures from going down the drain.

The newbie may or may not understood that the veteran had both more to lose and therefore was able to pay the price not to lose it.

With respect, Nefreet, the thread discussing bringing back pre-gens was locked. Please wait for the staff to unlock that thread to continue that discussion, rather than inviting this thread being locked, too.

Oh. Didn't realize. No wonder a new thread popped up.

EDIT: I suppose the tone of this post could be construed as sarcastic; it is not. When I scan for updates to threads my phone cuts off the far right side of the forum, so I didn't notice Chris Lambertz was the last person to post. I simply look for the "(X new)" tag, and if I don't see it, I don't read it. So thank you for the notice.
