Is there anything that says a cohort cant have an animal companion?

or, like, if I have a shadow dancer cohort... is there anything or any reason why the cohort shouldnt get the shade companion?

By the rules, no -- cohorts are entitled to whatever companions that they would be entitled to if they were player characters.

The only issue is that companions are generally weaker than their masters, so the companion of a companion might be weak enough not to be worthwhile to take into combat alongside the player characters. Given the negative consequences of losing his companion, a shadowdancer cohort might balk at taking such a risk.

well, I am more looking at utility.

I saw that whole cohort with leadership crap, yeah no... but I couldnt see why not for things like shadow dancer or druid with a companion.
