Order of operations for conditions?

Rules Questions

A sickened character deals damage while underwater with a slashing weapon. Sickened means -2 to the damage roll, while using a slashing weapon underwater means the damage is halved. Character rolls an 8. Is it:

A) 8 - 2 = 6 halved = 3 total
or
B) 8 halved = 4 - 2 = 2 total

Thanks.

Sickened is just another modifier to the roll, like a strength bonus or an enhancement bonus. So you figure out damage first, including the penalty, then halve the damage.

pretty sure it's A but i can't cite relevant text.

Cool, that makes total sense.

If this came up in my game I'd apply the condition first and then the environmental effect. I don't have any rules source to back that up, but doing it this way feels right to me. Things that directly affect the character (like conditions) seem like they should apply before things that the character interacts with (like environments).
