Advice neaded on a hulking Vigilante Build

Advice

So the Spymaster’s Handbook has brought us a pretty awesome new Vigilante Archetype the Taisatu. It gets a Ninja Ki-Pool at level 2 in place of a Vigilante Talent and requires that you go with Stalker specialization.
As I was trying to build a hulking Ninja for quite some time this seemed like an even better path to do so. So I’m trying to build one for PFS and figured Nagaji would work nicely. The idea is to hit people as har das possible with a Katana wileded in two hands and to get even more two handed attacks from Ki-Pool and when I can’t full attack from Up Close and personal.

However I really need some help with higher level feats. Also my Ability scores might be pushing it a bit but I think a 5 Int character might actually be a blast to play...

Ssslat a.k.a. Snake Man:

Nagaji Taisatu Stalker Vigilante
STR 20 DEX 14 CON 12 INT 5 WIS 8 CHA 14
Traits: Vessel between, Irrepresible
1 Weapon Focus - Katana (retrained)
1 Companion to the Lonely
2 Ki-Pool
3 Extra Ki
3 Social Grace
4 Up Close and Personal
5 Toughness/Power Attack?
5 Social Talent
6 Ki Power: Barkskin
7 Feat
7 Social Talent
8 Talent
9 Open
9 Social Talent
10 Talent
11 Feat
11 Social Talent

I really like "Leave an Opening" with "Up Close and Personal" as it'll let you get three attack a round if you swift hits from up close.

Hmm that's definetly a nice combo...that might actually be even better than the Ki-Pool. Then again having both is prolly a good idea either way.

I think the biggest deciding factors are
1) what else can you do with your ki and is it worth it
I don't have the book so I can't see how good a deal the archetype is or how long it delays this combo.

2) how often do you have haste

if you have haste then haste and ki gives you three attacks a round at full BAB.
If you don't have haste, UCaP triggers a second full bab attack that if it hits triggers a third attack as an AoO. This gets you sometimes 3 full bab attacks, but also might have you provoke an AoO.

for even more fun, use LaO and fortuitous weapon, to get a 2nd attack at -5 for the provocation.

I'm contemplating doing this build
dwarf to attept acrobatics in heavy armor
titan fighter 1 for heavy armor and large greatsword
barb/bloodrager for rage and eventually furious weapon
vigilante 6 getting UCaP, LaO, and vital strike which lets me vital on an AoO too. This would get me potentially 2 large vital strikes a round with only a slight penalty to accuracy.

the debate is going with a different race and actually trying to succeed the acrobatics check.

Essentially all the archetype does is trade out your seconnd talent for a Ki-Pool. Also later on you can pick an unchained monk ki-power(tatsty Barksskin). By level 6 I could have both the Combo and a Ki-Pool to have differnt options for swift action attacking.

Your suggested build looks like a lot of fun... a few questions/ideas...

Why Dwarf? Edit: Ah okay... just read up on acrobatics.

But you don't actually have to suceed on the acrobatics check to get the extra attack. Or does the attack only count as a a hidden strike (and thus proc Leave an Opening) if you suceed on your Acrobatics check?

So fortious Weapon sounds sweet. Can Fortious be placed on an AoMF?

I'm wondering if Canny Tumble works with this combo?

The Titan Fighter seems a bit like overkill. A Dwarf can wield a Oversized Dawrven Waraxe in two hands at a -2 penalty. It deals 2d8. Enlarge and Lead Blades make that 4d8. EWP Bastard Sword also works.

I'm wondering if this whole stick might be better suited for a Dex based character with light armor, high acrobatics and a dagger(Deific obedience) in order to ensure higher likelihood of making the acrobatics check and hitting while relying on hidden strike for damage?

Something else occured to me. What about combining and Social Grace and Wisdom in the Flesh on a STR build? Is that possible?

So I just realized that this doesn't work like I thought.

"A stalker vigilante can apply only one talent marked with an asterisk (*) to a given hidden strike, and only when that hidden strike is dealt against a foe that is unaware of the stalker vigilante's presence"

So that's lame, but this combo can't work in a normal fight.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"If the Acrobatics check succeeds, this attack applies the vigilante's hidden strike damage as if the foe were unaware of the vigilante."

So you are arguing that the as if the foe were unaware does not proc the "against a foe that is unaware clause?"

I feel like that's definetly debatable...
