Limited Wish --- Would this be acceptable?

Advice

So the party is in a big battle and really need their Monk. The player had his character leave the city to go mountain climbing and is currently 3 miles outside the city in high mountain terrain with no trails. They have him in contact thanks to Telepathic Bond spell, but neither him, nor the other players, have a way to somehow get him teleported to the battle.

Except the party wizard does have a Limited Wish spell, and we noticed there is no spell out there that mimics teleporting. Signifier's Rally spell does this but only to characters within Medium range, and it's 7th-level anyway. Not like Limited Wish can duplicate it.

But would it be reasonable to allow Limited Wish to, say, teleport just one willing character to your location? As per Teleport (so there could still be a chance of being off target, as a balancing measure).

Are you the GM? Do you want to say yes? If so, seems perfectly reasonable. I'd even do the miss chance roll behind the screen and give it to them if I wanted it to happen.

Are you a player? It's up to your GM, but considering that the Instant Summons spell is also 7th level, requires a ritual to set it up beforehand, and only teleport an object to you, your GM is well within their rights to say no.

Because Rule of Cool > all, I'd say go with allowing to teleport the Monk, have him fight the battle, but at some point afterwards have some weird side effect of pushing the Limited Wish above its limits appear. Like a vengeful genie going after the party for exploiting the spell.

I'd say it's fine.
Limited Wish can replicate any wiz/sorc spell 6th level or below & you're trying to emulate a 5th level spell (with a slight change for +1 level)

As Gulthor pointed out it's similar to Instant summons, but Instant summons can recall items from another plane, and without that I don't think it'd be a 7th level spell (also personally I don't really feel like it's worth a 7th level spell slot as it is, but that's just me)

Worst case scenario I guess your wizard could prepare 2 teleports to get him back?

My views are basically the same as the others'.

I think it's fair to say it falls into the DM's discretion, from a rules perspective. If you're looking for opinions on whether it should work, all I can say is that if I was the DM, I'd allow it because:

(a) it doesn't seem wildly overpowered or implausible (the telepathic bond helps re: locating him);

(b) it will be more fun to have the player/character present than not (particularly for him/her, who would otherwise have to sit on the sidelines for the whole battle); and

(c) it's cool.

If the DM was concerned and wanted to curb the "power level" for some reason, perhaps the spell doesn't bring the character directly to where the rest of the group is, and there is some additional time required for the monk to arrive (or alternatively, perhaps even an encounter on the way).

TLDR; do whatcha feel, and is most fun for your group.

If I was the GM and a player came up with this, I'd certainly allow it. It's the kind of clever thing limited wish/wish/miracle was made for. Again, especially if I wanted it to work. If the players tried to abuse it somehow, I might not let it work the next time. Wishes are unpredictable like that.
