Homebrew Race

Homebrew and House Rules

WARNING WALL OF TEXT

This is a homebrew race using the concept of a 6th sense racial ability I was asking about earlier. I've opted to use a variety of racial traits to express the 6th sense instead of a single encompassing ability.

Please have a look. Comments, criticisms, and changes are all welcome.

SU DARA

Su Dara are a wandering race with amnesia. They hail from another dimension but have no recollection of where that dimension is or how to return there. Much of their lives are spent searching for a way back to where they came from.

Physical Description: The Su Dara are race that hails from another dimension. They are humanoids with tanned complexions and dark hair. Their eyes are typically hazel or brown. The feature that immediately sets them apart from humanity is their gemstone-like third eye; an oval-shaped glossy feature that can be a variety of colors. Most common colors are amber and violet with occasional instances of being milky white and jet black. This feature gives them a number of extra-sensory capabilities and because of this, psychic abilities manifest easily among the Su Dara. Otherwise, at first glance, a Su Dara could pass for human. Upon closer inspection though there are subtle physical difference marking the distinction between humans and Su Dara; Su Daran proportions are slightly off compared to human proportions, their limbs and features are longer and more pronounced. These differences are so subtle that humans cannot immediately identify what's wrong with the Su Dara, just that looking at them gives humans a sense of uneasiness.
Su Dara run the gamut of heights typically found in humanity but are on average more trim and well-toned due to their lifestyles. Their lifespans extend well into their first century, typically passing at about 125 years of age.

Personality: The typical Su Dara is introspective and efficient, concerned with survival and the group as a whole over individual needs. They are prone to creating tight bonds not only with members of their own race, but also with individuals among other races whom they trust. They are helpful to others and willing to do all they can to be certain a goal is reached once a group has made a decision upon a course of action. In leadership positions, they are patient and willing to listen to the ideas of all members of the group but will make unilateral decisions if discussion degenerates into bickering.

Society: Su Dara normally live in nomadic and semi-nomadic clans of three to five extended families. Some may travel established annual routes and visit the same communities each year to trade and resupply while others are more exploratory and may travel to unmapped regions for years before returning to civilization.
If a Su Dara is encountered alone he will likely be either a scout for a larger community nearby, or a traveling master of Su Daran martial arts. As a wandering people, traveling light is a must and open-handed martial arts are a popular way to defend one's self without the burden of bulky armor and unweildly weaponry.

Relations: Su Dara avoid warlike and conquesting races or civilizations but are cooperative with more peaceful peoples. They are, however, usually wise enough to take individuals of a variety of races on their own merit rather than harbor any prejudices about a particular race as a whole.

Alignment/Religion: Lawful alignments usually typify the Su Daran mindset and sense of values but those with a more neutral bent are not unheard of. A chaotic Su Dara is an insane Su Dara who has suffered some extreme psychological trauma.
Although religion is not completely foreign to them, Su Daran are more typically philosophers than religious devotees. The one exception to this fact is occasional followers of the Moon Goddess Orannia. It is said that before the arrival of the Su Dara, the sky shown only stars at night. Now the violet crystalline sphere of Orannia brings a soft light to the darkness. Many Su Dara feel inexplicably tied to the moon and the goddess, feeling that perhaps she led them to this world. And if so, perhaps devotion to her will help them to discover their purpose here. As such, oracles are the exclusive divine adherents to Orannia among the Su Dara.

Adventurers: As a nomadic people, adventure seems to find the Su Dara rather than the Su Dara seeking it out. Every clan employs at least one scout so fighters, rangers, and rogues are easily found among them. Many follow unarmed combat traditions so monks are also common. As stated above, devotees of the Moon Goddess Orannia can be found in the form of oracles and psychics are abnormally common among Su Dara due to their "third eye".

Humanoid (extraplanar) seems very weird to me. Also, you mention a 6th sense ability, but I don't see one in the stats

Re: 6th Sense, line one states I'm using multiple racial traits together to simulate 6th sense.

Why does humanoid extraplanar seem odd to you? Humans gain the extraplanar subtype as soon as they leave their home plane.

Yeah, I had guessed that improved initiative was its sixth sense. Extraplanar feels odd, especially for people trying to go home. As all they would have to do it take a dismissal spell and there's an 80% chance they'll return to their home dimension.

Oh I see. So a high level spell can just negate the concept. Hmmm. Not accounting for magic I guess. What can I do to fix that? I want them to come from another dimension/plane but I don't want them to go home anytime soon. Remove Extra-planar subtype? How do I express the "weirdness and not-belonging on this world-ness then"?

6th Sense is a combination of dodge bonus to Ac, Impr. Initiative, and Alertness (bonus to perception, bonus to sense motive)

Unnatural aura?

That's not a bad idea.
