I'm really excited to see how the planes work out in this game. I've got questions and ideas about some of the planes below, but I'd also like to hear what everyone else is thinking / excited about for planar travel.

Astral Plane:
I understand that the Teleport and Dimension Door spells make brief use of the Astral Plane to make their quick travels. Are we going to have spaceships that jump great distances through the Astral plane? Is a jump through the Astral Plane going to replace a FTL drive? That'd be cool and kinda crazy.

Ethereal Plane:
Will there be any ships with ether drives, that allow them to enter the ethereal plane? This would be way cooler than any cloaking technology the Romulans ever had.
How sick is this: The adventurers spot a wavy, smoke like form of a ship, roughly the size of an escape pod, floating its way towards them. The pod merges with the ship, slips into the cargo hold - and suddenly there are two or three small creatures, pilfering supplies from the hold.

The Shadow Plane:
The Shadow Plane is terrifying enough when connected to the material world. While I'm uncertain whether the plane of Shadow is weaker where there is hope and sunlight, in the vast emptiness of space there lurks the possibility for enormous monsters to hunt that plane.

Planar Anomalies:
Are we going to have any planar anomalies, where one of the transitive / outer planes is somehow transposed onto the material out in the vastness of space? Traveling along, could a ship accidentally pass through an invisible gateway to the plane of Shadow - and find their next excursion to port haunted by strange and unsettling occurrences?

In the Paizocon seminar, they did mention that the cosmology will be there same as PF, so all the planes exist and should function about the same I'd think.

There was even a remark that there would be Cathedral Ships which plane shift to heaven, then plane shift back to the material plane close to their destination.

The Exchange

I kinda wish they'd make some sort of variation then just using the same stuff that's in PF

I'm interested in how the First World's version of space and other planets work. It could be that it doesn't have one, but I think it would be far more interesting if it did.

This thread is reminding me of Event Horizon, which is a very good thing.

Who hasn't thought about gateing a Super Star Destroyer to Hell and kicking Asmodeus's butt?

Makes you wonder though what kinds of hell and abyssal powered fleets of ships exist to defend against puny mortals with delusions of grandeur because they have spaceships.

OR starships that ARE devils/demons.

Pfeh...

Who needs spaceships when you can survive in the vacuum of space and greater teleport at will. Like on to the bridge of the mentioned star destroyer en masse to rip the puny mortals to pieces without needing to breach the hull, first.

Not really our thing. You have to wonder about the kytons, though...

I would like to toss in support for hearing more about the science fantasy version of the Great Beyond.

I am not going to lie. I would poop myself to death if I encountered a ZK ship full of Kytons and 'Joyful Things'.

Just a SSD? Why not a death star?

Maybe technological marvels like plasma swords and planet-busting lasers just don't work outside of the material plane (or hyperspace).

A Death Star, a dozen Star Destroyers, and a cloud of TIE fighters all simultaneously gate into Hell, the space-station's superlaser in the middle of a fully-charged blast, ready to punch a planet-sized hole down into the parched bedrock of Asmodeus' territory. The Star Destroyers are likewise ready to acquire complete air superiority over the hell-ruler's dominion, the TIE fighters ready to sally forth to do battle against the hordes of flying devils they have arrived ready to fight against.

However, as soon as the metal armada appears in the skies of Hell, a giant smoking cloud puffs out, the superlaser fizzles out, and the Death Star falls unceremoniously to crash and buckle into a huge pancake onto the vast plain beneath it. Every Star Destroyer acts like nothing so much as an unpowered lawn-dart, peppering the empty field around the dead station in shrapnel and flame.

Asmodeus looks on and chuckles quietly under his breath as he ponders whom he will allow to lead the 'search and rescue' operation.

Well, the Wraith from Stargate: Atlantis had organic ships, as did the Vorlons and Shadows from Babylon 5. The Bugs from Starship Troopers supposedly had organic transport bugs with FTL. The Yuuzhan Vong had them, I think. Lots of precedent exists for bio-ships.

It's already been stated that the main method of FTL is via hyperspace, a plane that is inaccessible to magical means. Only technology can enable you to enter and exit hyperspace, and perhaps you need it for traversal as well. We don't know if it's possible to sit on a hyperdrive, pop yourself into hyperspace, teleport to your destination's corresponding point, then pop out.

Despite being a wholly unmagical and empty plane, all these people popping in and out all the time have made other places 'leak' into hyperspace. This provides a kind of random encounter effect, where your ship encounters strange phenomena.

Event Horizon was mentioned.

The ship is a kyton. Or multiple kytons pulled into a destroyer. There is no avoiding the spiky starship made of writhing flesh. That's probably enjoying it a lot.

Okay, just..going to warp out of whatever star system that flies into. Bad mental image, really bad...

I am very curious about how the creation of the plane of Hyperspace has affected the other planes and travel to them. i would love to see something about how Hyperspace is acting as a buffer between the prime material and all other planes. There would be specific soul streams in hyperspace to allow souls to arrive and depart to continue life, these must be avoided by FTLing ships at all costs else just about every thing on your ship will become possesed/haunted. Otherwise it makes direct access to other planes extremely difficult. Make it part of the Meta plot to obfuscate Golarion and require outsiders to rely on technology to get into/out of the Prime Material.

As for gating in a SSD to the lower planes... Nah, not my thing. But Gating in randoms nukes for Shiggles on the weekend? Why not? Great way to celebrate a peace accord too.

I am intrigued. And by intrigued, I mean obsessively wanting to know how this all goes down. :D

Sounds like you're rather hyped for space. :3

I just finished freelancing for the Aethera kickstarter, so it's on my brain to say the least. :)
